Still other stories emanating from Heeldom confirm what FITS already suspected: during Sunday's second half fracas in Chapel Hill, Rashad McCants did in fact seek political asylum from Coach K and the Duke team, with the locquacious freshman reportedly asking the venerable Duke mentor "Got any room for me on THIS bench the rest of the season, Coach?"
From DBR, here's the rest of the story:

I would love to have someone with the talent of McCants on Duke. He is an OUTSTANDING player, but I think his arrogance would need to be honed in if he were to play for K.
BTW... this doesn't seem so far-fetched... Duke led for him for a lot of his recruitment.

Dahntay Jones? Chris Duhon? Both of those guys are a lot like McCants. All three talk, make gestures at the crowd, and "softly" taunt the other team. That used to be one thing good about Duke - there was emotion from guys like Hurley and Wojo, but there wasn't all this taunting and arrogant stuff to draw attention to themselves. I'm not saying Duke is the only team that does it - actually they used to be one of the few teams that didn't have that type...now they've joined the rest of the crowd.

If you look closely, Dahntay's behavior has been very much toned down since the beginning of the year. In the past 4 or 5 games, he hasn't thrown fists after a nice play, pounded his chest or stared anyone down; things he was guilty of earlier in the season.
Chris made one dumb comment earlier in the season and is now arrogant because of it?

Actually, I had forgotten about that until you mentioned it. I was talking about a couple times in a game a few weeks ago (some home game - NC State maybe) where he stared down the other team's bench after a pass to Dahntay for a dunk. There's no need for that crap. Have fun, but do your job the way it's supposed to be done.

I thought it was in the State game, maybe Maryland, but I know it was a game at Duke in the last month. Duhon made a crazy bounce pass to Dahntay for a wide open dunk, and as they were coming up the court, Duhon was just slowly strolling up the court and staring in the direction of the other bench. Maybe he was looking at another camera - I don't know but it didn't look that way.

Actually now that I think about it, there is no way he was looking at the other team's bench. They were walking up from the left side of the court (from the overhead camera view), so maybe he was looking at somebody on the Duke bench or right behind it.

That would be my guess. People who know Chris well say that he's far less arrogant than some others (Dunleavy, Ewing, Dahntay) than he's played with.

If there is any truth to the story that McCants said that to Coach K, should he ever have the right to wear a Carolina Blue uniform again?
