Florida State played The Citadel this afternoon. The Noles won 10-2, finally getting their bats hot again. The Seminoles are now 26-4. Next up will be North Carolina Tarheels. The Tarheels swept FSU last year. Friday's game will be on the Sunshine network at 7pm.

Best selling novelist and baseball fanatic John Grisham was at today's game :D

Go Seminoles 04-cheers

Florida State upends The Citadel 10-2
by Drew Hankin

The Seminole offense got cranked up again, pounding The Citadel with 9 extra base hits on Wednesday afternoon. Stephen Drew and Eddy Martinez-Esteve accounted for 5 of those, each hitting 2 doubles, and Martinez-Esteve crushing a homerun over the 'Eagles Nest' in left-centerfield.

On the mound, Glen Simon (3-0) earned the win with another strong outing. Simon did allow his first two runs of the season, but threw a good 5.0 innings, giving up 6 hits, and two walks while striking out 5 batters. Mark Sauls pitched 3 solid innings in relief, and Daniel Hodges closed out the game in the ninth.

After getting out of a jam in the 1st inning with a double play, the Noles came out swinging in the bottom of the inning. Drew led off with a double to right and scored on Tony McQuade's first triple of the season. A double down the left field line by Tony Richie brought home McQuade, and after moving to 3rd on a Jerrod Brown single, Richie scored on a single to right by Derrick Smith to give FSU a 3-0 lead.

Drew doubled again in the 2nd inning, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly to deep left by McQuade.

The Bulldogs picked up a couple of runs in the next frame when shortstop Matt Matulia singled up the middle and leftfielder Jason Stackley drew a walk before firstbaseman Chip Cannon brought them both home with a double to left-center.

Drew led off the 4th inning with a single to left and moved to 3rd on a McQuade double down the leftfield line. After Drew came home on a wild pitch, Tony Richie grounded out to score McQuade to put the Seminoles ahead 6-2. Martinez-Esteve then blasted his 6th homerun of the season to make it 7-2.

FSU picked up another run in the next inning when Matt Sauls singled to centerfield and took 2nd on an error. After Drew sac-bunted Sauls to 3rd, Richie brought him home with a single to right-center.

Two innings later, the Noles scored another run when Drew singled, stole 2nd and 3rd, and scored on a groundout by Brandon Manasa to make the score 9-2.

The final run of the game scored in the 8th when Martinez-Esteve doubled for the 2nd time in the game, and scored on a single to right by Smith.

With the win, the Seminoles improved to 26-4 while the Bulldogs fell to 14-9 on the season. FSU has Thursday off before hosting the North Carolina Tarheels for a 3-game series this weekend. Game times are 7:00 on Friday with Trent Peterson (4-0, 1.55 ERA) on the mound, 6:00 on Saturday with Matt Lynch (6-1, 3.22 ERA), and 12:30 on Sunday with Daniel Davidson (3-0, 0.70 ERA).
