After seeing all this foolishness, who would want the job?? If they intend on letting Matt go, they need to clean house. All the way to the top. DB needs to hit the bricks and Dean needs to head on out to the golf course. I love Dean, but he needs to look at how he is being perceived too. Is his lording over the program a good thing now? Is he going to be the reason a high quaility coach might not take the job?? I know many folks would never say anything negative about Dean, but you HAVE to look at the entire situation. I have quit reading all the rumors. I find it to be a complete waste of my time. Let the cards fall where they may, and I will pull for whomever is left standing.

I don't know what will shake out, but all the griping didn't help the program any. If there's a problem, I expect Coach Smith would still have enough influence to have it handled in the off season in as civilized a fashion as possible.

I've never seen so many know it alls contradicting each other. Bunch of
"inner circle" wannabees. Sorry for the rant, but I'm just fed up with people tearing down a program that was on its way to a comeback.
You're the smartest UNC fan I've ever seen. 04-bow

I think you're right about the fact there needs to be some housecleaning.
If Roy is not happy with his new AD at Kansas he (or any other quality coach) sure as hell ain't gonna want to fall back into the same mess with Baddour at Carolina.

I think Doherty is staying because there's too many other folks on up the ladder who who be afraid if Doherty was fired that they may be next if the school gets in a housecleaning frenzy.

From what I am hearing, we could know something as soon as this evening. All of this silence has not been good regarding Matt's cause, but I guess there is still a possibility that he will be our coach next year. If Matt's job is done, it looks like it will be Larry Brown or possibly Roy, Phil, Tubby, or Bill. It appears that Dick is getting this all straightened out for the best for the long, long run which is good. Go Heels!

The local radio station, WCHL, is reporting that Doherty is done. If so, this is a sad day. We will see what happens as the day continues.....

All I've heard is that he's gone.

Given the 2000 debacle... who will UNC get?

According to Andy Katz, Baddour will make his final decision sometime today...

Quote:North Carolina athletics director Dick Baddour is expected to decide Tuesday if Matt Doherty will be the coach of the Tar Heels for next season and beyond.

Sources have told ESPN.com that Baddour wants to have a decision on Doherty's fate before the Final Four. Badduor has been meeting for the past week with players and their parents about their relationship with Doherty, who just completed his second year as Tar Heels coach.

At issue for the school is whether Doherty is the right coach for the program for the foreseeable future, not just next season. Baddour has to decide if speculation about Doherty's job status and potential player unrest would undermine Doherty's future at the school.

Does anyone but me think that its rediculous that players are complaining about the actions of our coach. When Guth was coach everyone asked for a coach with emotion. Now we have one and everyone is complaining. Earlier in the season Matt was happy players had someone like Phil to vent to. I think Matt realizes now that Phil might not have been the best person for players to go and vent to. His fingerprints very likely are on the knife in Matt's back. Others are now saying whoever the next coach is that Phil should be on the bench. If Matt's gone then Phil should be too. I loved Phil as a player, but his time is over. LEAVE

I'm certain the decision has already been made, but if you want an assistant, former Smith player, that will SURELY help the next coach then go hire Curtis Hunter. He has always been a team player, and he understands the weight placed on the head man (NCA&T). Matt surely could have used someone like him this past season. Just like Matt, he needs time to mature into a head coach, nowhere better than on our bench.

Matt might get fired tonight because we, the fans, the players, and the atheletic staff haven't been patient or forgiving of his mistakes. He'll rebound because of the experience he gained here. It'll be our loss. The players will regret the statements they have made, COACH'S ARE NOT TO BE LIKED, THEY ARE TO BE RESPECTED. It used to be that way. Will it be that way in the future?

Matt used to say it was like listening to Coach Smith when Roy addressed his players at Kansas. Yes, it was Matt's fault he did not bring someone like Hunter in, but he might have thought he had him in Ford.

If Matt had been abusive to his players there would be no question of the outcome. This is not the case. He wore that blue and coached that way. Some of his player should remember that before they open their mouth.

Upset
