OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss used a four-run fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and defeat No. 24 Florida 8-3 and clinch this weekend's three-game Southeastern Conference series Saturday afternoon, in front of 2,539 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The Rebels won Friday's series opener 2-0.

The win was ninth straight by Ole Miss (31-21, 15-11 SEC) over Florida (32-17-1, 11-14-1) in Oxford dating back to 1997, and was the Rebels' 12th in the last 16 meetings overall against the Gators. Ole Miss will aim for its third straight sweep of Florida in Oxford when the series concludes Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.

Bryce Morrison reached on a one-out walk to start the fifth inning and Matt Tolbert followed with a single through the right side to advance Morrison to third. Jonathan Swearingen then laid a bunt down the third base line that pitcher Justin Hoyman and catcher Brian Rose didn't play in hopes the ball would go foul. Instead, the ball stopped inside fair territory to allow Swearingen to reach safely and Morrison to score the go ahead run.

Tolbert would then score on a throwing error by Gator shortstop Justin Tordi attempting to turn a double play off the bat of Seth Smith and make it 3-1. Stephen Head followed with a double to score Smith, and Head would score when Chad Sterbens followed with a single to cap the inning and make it 5-1.

The Gators would get back a run in the sixth, however, Ole Miss would plate three more in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Charlie Babineaux.

Freshman left-hander Brae Wright (4-2) held Florida to two runs, one earned, on seven hits and two walks, and struck out two over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win.

Anthony Cupps pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits and one strikeout to earn his second save of the year.

Hoyman (7-5) was tagged with the loss as he allowed seven runs, six earned, on nine hits and one walk in five innings. He also struck out three.

Nine different Rebels picked up at least one hit as Ole Miss out-hit Florida 13-9 on the afternoon.

Jonathan Tucker went 3-for-5 for the Gators.
