Defraud investors out of millions, including your dad and your brother, then basically get off the hook when your dad lies, drops his claim and speaks on your behalf.
I guess Steve Bowden could now be eligible to play for FSU this weekend based on his dad's disciplinary standards.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The oldest son of Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden avoided jail in a $10 million investment fraud case Friday after his father -- among the alleged victims -- spoke on his behalf.
While Steve Bowden once faced a maximum of 41 months in prison and restitution totaling $4.3 million, he was instead sentenced to six months in home detention and one year probation.
U.S. District Judge Karon O. Bowdre also ordered him to pay $1.26 million in restitution, an amount reduced because his father and another victim dropped their claims.
Addressing the court, the elder Bowden denied he was a victim of fraud. Instead, Bobby Bowden said he simply lost money in an investment that both he and his son believed to be solid.
Prosecutors said Steve Bowden assisted investigators in unraveling the case, another factor in lessening the sentence.
Steve Bowden pleaded guilty in April, admitting he conspired with former Alabama quarterback Brian Burgdorf and others in a scheme that allegedly defrauded investors of $10 million.
The scam involved selling unregistered securities through The Millennium Fund, which billed itself as being for "the privileged few."
Steve Bowden brought in his father and three other investors, who lost more than $4 million total, according to prosecutors. Bobby Bowden invested $1.6 million.
Steve Bowden and Burgdorf, a backup on Alabama's national title team in 1992, pleaded guilty to conspiring to sell unregistered securities.
Bowden and Burgdorf, whose sentencing was delayed, were among recruiters who brought investors into the scheme, which began in 1996 and included a web of accounts and corporations, according to court documents.
Three other men also were charged

Yea, you're right granny. It's my opinion that Steve Bowden pleaded guilty to fraud and it's my opinion that he brought his dad and his brother into his scheme. And it's my opinion that his father and brother lost millions and it's my opnion that his father thought it was a solid investment.
You're right, all this was my opinion and the AP article was an anomaly.

My 2 cents worth probably won't be worth a plug nickel, but I'll insert it anyway.
UGI, my question to you is, how many of us would not do everything possible to protect our children? I know I would lie, cheat and steal to protect my daughter from going to jail and if necessary even die for her.
Secondly, Bobby said that he just thought that he made a bad investment, now how are we to know whether this is true or not, we are not capable of reading his mind. I myself have made a few bad investments in my life that have lost me money, though not nearly to the extent of 1.6 million dollars.
And the article said that another investor beside Bobby decided to drop their claims as well as Steve Bowden cooperating with authorities to bring more people to justice, something that happens in courts of law on a daily basis, it is called plea bargins. And how many times have you seen someone speak before the judge on behalf of the accused and plead for leniency in the case. Wouldn't you if it was your son or daughter that was about to be sentenced.
My point here is that people are quick to pass judgement on someone, just because they don't like them or they are people in successful positions. I am nor condoning what Steve Bowden did, but he has faced the court system and they have passed judgement, whether we like it or not, but to blame Bobby Bowden and call him a liar is ludicrous.

All good points FSUDude.
It's just appalling that Bowden's son brought his brother and his dad into an investment scheme that he knew was a scam. What a complete low life. The fact that daddy lied for him is honorable but I suppose I would do the same thing if the scum bag paid me back!

UGI, I too was appalled when I read the story that Steve had duped Daddy out of over a million dollars. My first thought was how in heavens name can a child do that to his father. But it occured to me that greedy people will do anything for the almighty dollar.
But regardless of what our children do, we will never cease to love them and I believe that is the way Bobby feels toward Steve.
I believe that Steve should at least serve some jail time even though he is cooperating with authorities investigating this case farther.
