Terry Grant to 'Bama
Mr. Football commits to Alabama

By Tim Doherty

For the second year in a row, it looks like Alabama will land Mississippi's Mr. Football.

Lumberton running back Terry Grant has made an oral commitment to sign with the Crimson Tide, Lumberton coach Teddy Dyess said today. Grant (5-foot-10, 185 pounds), who led Lumberton the Class 2A title in 2004 and '05 and ran for 8,020 yards and 115 touchdowns during his career, chose Alabama over Southern Miss, Florida State and Memphis.

"He's going to Alabama," said Dyess. "He called Southern, Memphis and Florida State and told them this morning. He said he's 95 percent sure, just in case he changes his mind."

Grant's commitment is non-binding. The first day high school prospects can sign binding letters of intent is Wednesday, beginning at 7 a.m. If Grant does end up at Alabama, he will join up with Brookhaven's Jimmy Johns, the state's Mr. Football in 2004. Johns, a high school quarterback, played running back as a freshman for the Crimson Tide.

SH*T! I can't stand seeing all of these high end athletes go somewhere else. The tide will turn for us eventually (pun intended).
