(Joke) 3rd team all ACC John Gilcrist from the University of Maryland seals his MVP honors by simply sticking it to everyone who showed him such little respect. It wouldn't be me if I didn't hit you with the stats...so here they are.

In the three games where UMD beat the #3, #2, and the #1 seed in the conference, JG put up a combined stat dream.

3pt % - 9-14 or 64%
FG% - 26-41 or 63%
A/TO - 19/6 or 3.1/1 ratio
Rebounds - 16
Steals - 6
Blocks - 1

Might I point out that no one in the conference even came close to those types of numbers. The image that will remain in my head for years to come was JG picking Duhon clean and then dunking on his head on the way to a three point play. That play of course will be remembered along with the last second drive to the bucket with Williams draped all over him for another 3 point conversion to take it to overtime. Can I also mention that Jamar Smith was BY-FAR the best big man in the tourney?

I'm not going to get ugly with this post. I think Duke is a great team and just simply got out-hustled. There wasn't anyone that was going to stop Gilcrist. I do have to say that the arrogance shown by Duhon and JJ while they were up (not to mention Duhon's big pre-game mouth) really made this victory sweet.

I'm so sorry that we had to come down to your back yard and ruin it for you guys in front of your fans and your refs. Hey, there's always next year....in DC.

But...but what about Duhon's leadership and "court presense"? That's stuff that you just can't measure in stats. 03-wink

As Nik Caner-Medley said after hearing about Duhon's claim for 6 in a row...don't count your chickens before they hatch. His leadership meant what it has all season long. The bottom line is when his teammates aren't hitting (JJ you know who you are), Duke loses. The end. All 5 losses Duke has suffered this season has come on the backs of poor shooting performance from JJ, Deng or Williams...and there wasn't a thing the "leader" could do to help.

On the flip side, JG sure could do something about it.

ps. Isn't it funny how quiet is has become in here...typical.

There's their first one, let's see them put 4 more ACC Tourney Championships in a row with it.

Bring it on.

doh

P.S. I'm not sure what you mean about the extra finger thing but I'm sure it's something that only a Maryland fan would notice or care about. The kinda stuff you guys seem to thrive on.

Look Doh, even you aren't going to ruin this for me. UMD went in there and beat the #3, #2, and #1 in the conference...not to mention 3 NC schools. Name me the last team to do that...oh yeah that was UMD as well. Duke had to beat a #8, #4 and #6 to win it and they choked behind the devine leadership of Chris Duhon.

On the flip side, Dukes run at 5 in a row is an incredible feat. I'm not taking anything from that record. It is just plain awesome. With that being said, who better to end the streak than the TERPS!

Not trying to ruin anything. Duke was beat in their own backyard by a great team, fair and square.

But I'm not going away just because they got beat and I'm sure as hell not gonna let anyone run over them just because they got beat because Duke has beaten everyone in the ACC decisively and can do it again on any given day.

Enjoy yourself.

Just like I have never said Duke wasn't a great team. I commend you for sitting and taking it. I just wonder where Nate and his mouth are.

And let me point out one more thing...the only one I run over is your over-pressed, over-rated PG. The rest of the team is great.

Duhon is not as talented as the press may make him out to be, but his presence on the floor for Duke is unmeasurable. He doesn't need to be the flashiest player on the court, he needs to be the smartest and the most in control player for Duke (note being the leading scorer with 21, almost all of which came off of drives and layups). He fills that role perfectly.

Here's my ranking of importance of Duke players:
1. Duhon
2. Williams
3. Deng
4. Ewing
5. Redick

Good win for MD.

Note that the above is not talent-based.

You've heard what I have to say and I have heard what you have to say. No one is gonna change anything... If you really want me to write out a long response I will, but it doesn't seem worth the time or energy.

Well if Duhon's pressence was such a force then where was this immeasurable leadership when he was turning the ball over and getting dunked on in the final minutes? Where was his "incredible" defense when JG blew right by him to tie up the game?

Look, I am not going to say that Chris Duhon is a bad player at all. In fact I think he does show quality skills as a PG. What pisses me off is the unjust and undeserved praise he gets simply because he plays for Duke. At least JWill backed it up with stats. You go ahead and define him any way you want but if Duhon steals any more honors from much more deserving players, you will here it from me.

I will stand firm behind the fact that if Duhon played for any other team he certainly would not get any press or honors.

ps. Thank you for being the very first Dukie on this board to finally admit that Duhon is over-rated. That took balls.

Talent wise I think he's overrated, but value wise for Duke he isn't.

OK..I won't argue with that. Isn't talent a good part of determining the POY honors though? Name me the last POY that put up such horrible stats.
