JU 2 runners on and no outs. 3rd batter is struck out. FSU strikes out the 4th batter. Cheeseman (catcher) tries to throw out a JU player who was trying to steal a base and the third baseman wasn't in position. The score is now 4-2.

FSU 3 up and 3 down for the Noles.

Seminoles destroy the Dolphins
by Drew Hankin

#16 Florida State had a ten-run inning and scored their most runs in a game since a win over Florida in 2001, in a 19-3 rout over the Jacksonville Dolphins on Wednesday night. Brant Peacher and Eddy Martinez-Esteve both hit homeruns, and combined for seven of FSU's hits and eleven RBIS. Martinez-Esteve's seven-RBI game is the most since Marshall McDougall had his six-homerun, sixteen RBI game against Maryland in 1999.

Brian Schultz (3-0) got the win in relief as the Seminoles used six pitchers in the game. Brian Chambers started and looked a little shaky during his four innings, allowing two runs on six hits while walking one batter and striking out six. DiCarlo Thompson allowed a hit in the fifth inning, but struck out the other two batters he faced. Kevin Lynch, Rhett James, and Tyler Chambliss each saw an inning of work. Chambliss got the side in order, and has now struck out ten batters in a row, going back to the West Virginia game.

FSU began the scoring barrage in the bottom of the first when Gibbs Chapman singled to right, stole second, and scored on Martinez-Esteve's first of three hits in the game. Aaron Cheesman then extended his hitting streak to fifteen games with a double to right, and after a walk to Danny Wardell, Peacher doubled in Martinez-Esteve and Cheesman.  Wardell scored the final run of the inning on a throwing error by JU shortstop Pete Clifford to make it 4-0.

Two innings later, the Dolphins cut that lead in half on an RBI-single by first baseman Donald Brickle, and a wild pitch by Chambers.

After a scoreless fourth, FSU picked up their fifth run of the game in the bottom of the fifth frame when Chapman doubled to left, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored three batters later when Wardell walked with the bases loaded.

An inning later, Matt Sauls and Bryan Zech both reached on bunt-singles before Chapman walked to load the bases. Martinez-Esteve then brought them both home with a sinlge through the left side to make it 7-2.

After Wardell drew a walk in the seventh inning, Peacher made it 9-2 with his first career homerun.

After the Dolphins picked up their last run of the game in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by right fielder Thomas LePage, the floodgates opened in the bottom of the inning as the Noles batted around.

Zech led off the festivities with a double down the left field line before Chapman was hit by a pitch. Martinez-Esteve then launched a humongous homerun that actually went over the new Dick Howser Stadium scoreboard. After Danny Diaz struck out, Ryne Malone was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a single to right by Peacher, and to third when Louis Rojas walked. Dennis Anderson then doubled off the wall in right, scoring both Malone and Peacher, before an error allowed Rojas to score.  Sauls then reached on an infield single before Brandon Manasa singled through the right side to score Anderson. After Sauls went to third on a passed ball, Raul Rodriguez walked to load the bases. Martinez-Esteve then walked to force in Sauls, and Danny Diaz singled through the left side of the infield to bring home both Rodriguez and Manasa an finish the scoring-fest at 19-3. All ten runs of the inning went to Dolphin reliever Rob Hudson.

FSU improved to 17-6 on the season and have won six games in a row, while Jacksonville fell to 11-11. The Noles have a day off before beginning ACC play with a three-game home series against the Maryland Terrapins. Game times are 7:00 on Friday, 7:00 on Saturday, and 1:00 on Sunday. Hunter Jones (1-1, 2.97 ERA), Eddie Cannon (5-1, 2.27 ERA), and Mark Sauls (1-1. 3.29 ERA) are expected to start the games against UM.

Section B Online Players of the Game:
Eddy Martinez-Esteve (3-4, 3 R, 7 RBI, 2 BB, HR)
&
Brant Peacher (4-5, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2B, HR)
