When were they ever there? The highest they've ever been ranked is 9th. This is who they played in 1991 when they finished 11-1:

Illinois: 6-6
Memphis: 5-6
Central Florida: 6-5
South Carolina: 3-6-2
Akron: 5-6
<span style='color:red'>Syracuse: 10-2</span>
Pittsburgh: 6-5
Tulane: 1-10
Southern Mississippi: 4-7
Virginia Tech: 5-6
Cincinnati: 4-7
*North Carolina State: 9-3

Only 3 teams with winning records. They squeaked out a win over Syracuse who had just been annhilated by FSU the week before. They then went to beating scrub after scrub until beating NCState in the Peach Bowl to claim the title of Kings of Mediocrity. So tell me friend when were they ever 'there'?

When ECU can string together more than 3 winning seasons, come back to us. ECU hasn't done that since its 1972-1979.

Beating the "probation-era" Canes doesn't suddenly place ECU "there". Sure it's good for emotions, so you'll have something to hold on to at night, but it doesn't mean ECU has "arrived".

ECU has a rookie head coach, a rookie DC, a rookie OC. None of that makes a good combination. 3-4 wins will be a major accomplishment this season.

In this rebuilding year, I expect at best 5 wins for ECU. Each year will be better.

We can always schedule Div-1AA like William & Mary so that there will be at least one win, maybe( Remember Furman??) With the addtion of Miami, and VTech, welcome to your permernant place in the lower tier of the ACC. No longer will #8 be good, now it will be #10, 11, or 12
