Michaelf,
You have no idea what Jerry Johnson has meant to our program. Jerry was the first hire I made as AD. Before his arival our program had no structure or direction. Since his arival our players are true STUDENT-ATHLETES. All of his players must attend study session from 2:30- 3:30 daily. Every Friday he gets a print out of his players weekly grade, attendance and conduct. Our overall team gpa is a 2.89 with 5 of his players having a 4.0 or better. Many parents now approach us about sending their sons to Mitchell because of Coach J.
On the court we made the state tournament during their freshman year and the sub-state last year. We are hoping to win the state this year but if we don't we will still be proud of our program.
Coach J has had an positive impact on my life. He was my JV coach when I attended Mitchell. When we were looking for a coach a lot of people wanted the job. We were getting a brand new state of the art school and we knew that we would become a top school. I approached coach J. because I knew he was old school and would train our players to be young men. Does he talk too much sometimes? of course, but he is good for our program.

Is Jerry Johnson the worst high school coach in Memphis?
With a lineup of TY, Brandon Powell, and Thornton. Mitchell lost to KIRBY and Hamilton. Look at this quote he told Fred Horton at BTW, "(Mitchell coach) Jerry Johnson has been here twice, for the Sheffield game and for the Westwood game, and he made a comment to me," Horton said. "He said, 'Fred, I'm going to go ahead and win state this year because I know where the basketball is going to be over the next couple of years.'
Hey Jerry, with the 3rd ranked player in the country, should you have been to state at least ONCE! Galilee will you make a change this year if Jerry doesn't get it done this year?
Hamilton (8-0) 105-96 win over Mitchell ( I can understand this one because TY sit out.)
Kirby 63-62 over Mitchell (Does Kirby have a player on the roster that could start for Mitchell?)

I understand he was hurt, but Mitchell is supposedly to have three major Division 1 signees in TY, Powell and Thornton, even without TY they should be able to beat Kirby which has no Division 1 signees. Look at Jerry Johnson's track record at Kingsbury, good talent always underachieving. Also I believe TY foot has been hurt all summer and he should have rested this summer instead he's reinjured the same ankl, I smell a Deuce Ford scenario, making the star player play even though he should be sitting out a few games, I hope Mitchell will not do what Sylvester Ford Sr. did to Deuce who should have been operated on senior season and instead played and was never the same.

Jerry's certainly not the worst, trust me.
As to what I should or shouldn't talk about I can assure you I don't need any help with that thank you.

Just to be clear, I did not start this thread. There is some type of bug on this board that caused my post to be placed at the top of the thread instead of the bottom.

Michaelf,
Why do you have such an ax to grind? Why does this bother you so?
Duke almost lost a game last week, but won by a half court prayer shot at the buzzer. The other team didn't have ONE player that would've started for Duke. Is Duke pathetic because they won by only one? Or would they be pathetic if they had lost?
Oh yeah, the Atlanta Hawks beat San Antonio the other night...I guess they're pathetic as well?
In sports - particularly b-ball - upsets are somewhat common. That's part of what makes the games so exciting, the unpredictability of it all. Sure, we know who'll win "on paper" but it's on the court that counts.
I guess the Buffalo Bills led by Jim Kelly were pathetic, because they never won it all.
Geez, if you are so upset at "Coach J" as Galilee calls him, why don't you pick up the phone and call Mitchell and tell him? I'm sure he'd be tickled pink to hear your opinions.

I do not know anything about his coaching but I know he has come across in the paper as an idiot. First with his "race train or card" or whatever he said and he was also talking undefeated and the # 1 team in the country before the season started. Better take care of being # 1 in Memphis first there race train.

Merrick, I ask just asked a simple question, the last time I checked we do live in the United States of America. You name me one coach in Memphis who had a top 10 player that has failed to win a game in the state playoff, you know that Reginald Mosby would have won a least one championship with this talent and made sure they got there grades, even Galilee knows that . Galilee, I will compliment you on this, I believe you look out for the academics moreso than Jerry. In my opinion Coach Johnson has failed to develop Powell and Thornton while trying overly showcase TY ala Ted Anderson (Hamilton), did the year Todd Day was a senior, he also was distracted and failed to make it to the state that year.

Merrick, it seems that just as Michaelf is being hard on Mitchell/Johnson/Galilee you seem blinded to anything negative going on at Mitchell, which I understand. In my opinion.
