Clemson releases 2004-05 schedule

CLEMSON — Miami, Boston and Hawaii will represent three of the more exotic road trips for the Clemson basketball team this fall.
The Atlantic Coast Conference released the 2004-05 men’s basketball schedule on Wednesday, and the Tigers will play at Miami, at Boston College and will also play in Hawaii in the Rainbow Classic.
In the first year of ACC expansion, the Tigers will continue to play 16 regular season conference games, but will no longer play home-and-home series with four schools — Duke, N.C. State, Wake Forest and Virginia.
The Tigers played one of the toughest schedules in the country last season according to the Ratings Percentage Index, and will play non-conference games against Alabama-Birmingham, Georgia, Ohio State and South Carolina.
"Those are obviously teams with a national profile who have excellent basketball programs," Clemson coach Oliver Purnell said in a statement released by the school. "All of those teams will challenge us and help us prepare for conference play."
The Tigers will play an exhibition game against Carson-Newman Nov. 6, and will then play their first official game Nov. 19 against Hampton. The Feb. 16 game against Georgia will be played in the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville. Last season the Tigers and the Bulldogs met in Philips Arena in Atlanta.
Clemson will see a former player when it squares off with Ohio State as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge Dec. 1. Tony Stockman, a senior point guard recruited to Clemson by Larry Shyatt, transferred to Ohio State after averaging 12.1 points in 59 career games in two seasons at Clemson.
"Overall this year’s schedule looks to be as tough as last year’s," Purnell said. "Our young ball club is certainly looking forward to the challenge."

Bragging about wins vs. Clemson in basketball is pretty low.
Oliver Purnell will have us up there soon enough.
In Oliver we trust.

Yeah, I know.
You really think Purnell will get you to the elite of the ACC? How many years do you give him?

Elite? Not consistently.
Top 5...sure thing. We have the facilities and the environment ... now the coach.
Clemson fans love him and will be very patient. He is already crecruiting top 100 talent. His first two classes are top 25 at least.
Not bad at Clemson.
