The pictures on IC looked insane! I hope you came out unscathed JD!

I can't explain how hard it was for me to not just jump in my car and drive down there and join the celebration... :crying:

Just don't party too hard in Chapel Hill, or else... (see also: Reggie Love)

I still don't have pictures up yet, but I'll remedy that soon.

Here's my account of Monday night in Chapel Hill:

I drove up after work and got there around 7:00. A group of friends were meeting at He's Not Here to watch the game, so that's where we ended up. For those that don't know Chapel Hill very well, He's Not is an outdoors bar located off Franklin Street (but behind the front row shops/restaurants) across from Granville Towers.

The crowd was rowdy -- as you can imagine -- and everyone went nuts during the closing minutes of the game. Folks were standing and jumping in front of the big-screen TV's during the last 9 seconds of the game, and we could only tell the game was over from the final loud roar of the people immediately in front of the TV.

Everyone poured out to Franklin Street, and we got there before it started to fill up. From this point on, it started to get a little too rowdy for my taste. We were able to make our way close to one of the bonfires, so I held up my digital camera to take some pictures. Some shirtless guy kept jumping into my back at full force. Then, as I was taking pictures, I noticed someone grabbing at the back of my jeans. Being perfectly sober (much to this guy's chagrin, I'm sure), I turned around and saw the shirtless guy moving away from me. It dawned on me then that he was trying to grab my wallet out of my back pocket. Needless to say, I moved my wallet to my front pocket (which I should have done earlier).

The only other negative aspect is that as more people started to show up, the crowd got tighter and more confined. A couple of the people I was with were getting crushed because everyone kept pushing inward toward the bonfires. We were able to get away from that and to the side of Franklin Street, which gave us a better and more peaceful view of the show.

That's really about the only bad stuff I have to report from Monday. Some guy jumped up and hung on a Franklin Street sign, which I have a picture of. Of course, some folks jumped into the trees there. Others shot off fireworks here and there. As we walked by Frat Court, there was a huge bonfire in the middle of that in front of all the houses. A firetruck pulled up immediately and took care of that.

On the whole, it was a very enjoyable evening (as you can imagine). I'll try to get a link to some pictures up by this weekend....

Franklin was awesome that night!! I watched the game at a friend's house on Columbia Street, and headed down as soon as it was over. I was right under the guy hanging on the sign, he said right after he jumped down that he was trying to tear it off. It was pretty laid back, no serious injuries that I can remember, definitely awesome.

Marvin and Sean, please stay next year!!! I am already having to cope with the fact that Quentin Thomas will be our starting point guard, and we don't have a proven backup.

Thanks, yea it is true. I am definitely looking forward to next year. We will be counting on some freshmen to carry the load, I think we will be OK.

And who knows, maybe UNC football will surprise some people also.
