Looks like Echefu may have scheduled a visit to UNC. I look for him to come if todays PC is the declaration of all 3 going pro. That would leave a ton of playing time for him. Doesn't look to shabby, a #8 PF to add to an already impressive class coming in.

He would be a great addition. He works hard around the basket. He does not have a great outside game but he can learn that. I really think Marvin will be back. I wish Sean would not hire an agent and see where he ends up. Best of luck to Rashad and Ray. I appreciate what they have done for us. 04-bow

Well, they are all gone. Best of luck to them. We still have Roy and he is going to keep us near the top.

looks like we're watching a Thomas guy also... Not nationally ranked, no stats really on this guy... Anyone have any info on this guy??

Looks like Roy is probably scambling to fill some positions here...

BTW, with the mass exodus, does that leave us with 7 scholarships to offer (not including the incoming class), or is there a hitch in it somewhere with the ones leaving early?

No hitch. We have schollys! Thomas could help but I would rather take our lumps next year and use the scholly on someone Roy really wants.

Another write up on Echefu...

Quote:Power forward Echefu ripe for the picking

By Thad Mumua
Correspondent

Uche Echefu is one of the few plums remaining for 2005, and there is a good chance he could wind up in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The 6-foot-8 power forward from Rockville (Md.) Montrose Christian School is the 75th-ranked senior in the country by prepstars.com, but he probably is better than that and will likely get a more favorable final rating.

Echefu, a Nigerian who came to the United States three years ago, has narrowed his college choices to Maryland, North Carolina, Kentucky and Florida State, though not necessarily in that order.

Carolina's Roy Williams reportedly has visited Echefu's home and there could be a visit to Chapel Hill on the horizon.

"The Carolina possibilities are very attractive," Montrose Christian assistant coach David Adkins said. "It isn't too often that a kid can sign with the national champion and have a good chance of playing right away."

That certainly could be the case for Echefu as the Tar Heels' big man situation would become desperate if Marvin Williams and Sean May decide to head for the NBA. That would leave 6-9 rising senior Byron Sanders as the only returning Carolina post player. (No, we're not counting Damion Grant.)

Of course, November signee Tyler Hansbrough, a 6-9 power forward from Poplar Bluff (Mo.) High, is expected to contribute right away.

"I know Uche is looking at what could happen at Carolina," Adkins said, "but even without that, Roy Williams and the Carolina tradition are good enough reasons to go there.

"The other choices are good ones, too. Kentucky, Maryland and Florida State would all be great places to play college basketball."

Echefu averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots as Montrose Christian finished 23-3. He made 59 percent of his field goal attempts and hit 80 percent of his free throws. He shot 35 percent on 3-pointers, trying 30 for the season.

"Uche has a college body - really a pro body - already," Adkins said. "He weighs 225 to 230 pounds, and he is extremely strong in the weight room. He is 'cut', as they say.

"His rebounding is very, very good. I would say that is the best part of his game. He is still learning the intricacies of basketball. He has only been playing since 2000, and his progress was delayed some by a knee injury his first year here (2002-03). He missed preseason workouts and a month of practice, so that season was a little bit of a wash.

"But he has made amazing progress," Adkins said. "This is a kid who has a tremendous thirst to get better. He has a passion to be great. He enjoys working at his game and also playing. His best basketball is ahead of him. I think he is going to be a really fine college player.

"He can really run, and he's good with his back to the basket. He has strong post moves - a jump hook with both hands, a reverse pivot and a drop step. His face-up skills are getting better."

Echefu has a 3.4 grade-point average and has met the minimum SAT requirement.

Although there is no pressing deadline - the spring signing period lasts until May 18 - a decision may be coming in the next two weeks, Adkins said.

Looks like he's headed to FSU. :frown:

I got fooled too by Zeke's site. I don't mean to be a skeptic, but Zeke seems to always have it wrong when it comes to these recruits. Where does he get his information?

Anyway, we are going to struggle mightily in the post next season.

Yup, hard to believe that he picked the Noles over the National Champs UNC... but he did 04-rock
