Chapman Has Another Big Game In No. 15 FSU's 8-1 Win Over Terps
Barret Browning cruises to the win throwing just 58 pitches in five
innings of work.

College Park, MD - The 15th-ranked Florida State baseball team is heating up at the right time. The Seminoles won their fourth straight game and their sixth game in the last seven as they secured the series win over Maryland 8-1 Saturday night. Gibbs Chapman went 4-for-5 with his second home run of the series and Shane Robinson went 3-for-3 with a lead-off homer and two steals as he became just the fifth Seminole ever to swipe 40 or more bases in a season. Barret Browning (4-3) pitched five strong innings throwing just 58 pitches in garnering the win. The win moved the Seminoles to 40-14 on the season and 14-9 in the ACC.

Nine different Seminoles recorded hits as FSU pounded Terrapin pitching for 14 hits. The Seminoles scored six runs in the first three innings and cruised to the victory. Maryland collected just five hits against three different Seminole pitchers

The game could not have started off any better for the Seminoles against Maryland left-hander Chris Bowen (2-4) as Robinson led off the game with his third home run of the season. It was the second time this season that Robinson led off the game with a homer and it was his first home run since mid-March against Virginia Tech. Chapman followed with a single into shallow center and then a perfectly executed hit and run put runners on the corners. Danny Wardell then drove in FSU's second run on a sac bunt up the first base line allowing Chapman to score easily.

Florida State went right back to work in the second. After a fly out, Ryne Jernigan and Tony Thomas, Jr. recorded back-to-back singles.  Robinson then drove another run home as he singled in Jernigan making it a 3-0 game. The Seminoles fourth straight single, this one by Ryne Malone, made it a 4-0 game and kept runners on the corners. The trend continued as Chapman slotted another single through the right side making it 5-0.

With Brant Peacher's one out single in the third, FSU equaled its number of hits from the entire game the night before with nine. An error allowed Jack Rye to reach and got Peacher down to third where Jernigan then drove the run home on a sac fly to left field.

Back-to-back walks, the first of the game by Browning, brought Matt DiBlasi into the game to try and end the first Terp threat of the evening. A fielder's choice got the runner at second and left UMD with Terps on the corners. A ground ball to third gave FSU it's second out of the inning but it also broke up the shutout as the runner from third came home making it a 6-1 game.

Chapman was back at it in the ninth as the senior hit a solo shot out of Shipley Field making it a 7-1 game. It was his team-leading eighth homer and gave Chapman his sixth hit in 10 at bats in two games. Florida State tagged on another run thanks to Ruairi O'Connor who dropped a ball into right field scoring pinch runner Ryan Strauss all the way from first base with the final run.

The Seminoles conclude their series with Maryland Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Florida State will return home for two midweek games against Stetson.  The games will both be played at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
