The winner of the Tallahassee Regional will be matched up with the Gainesville Regional. In addition to No. 1 seed Florida, who is a No. 7 national seed, No. 2 seed North Carolina (40-17-1), No. 3 seed Notre Dame (36-22-1) and No. 4 seed Stetson (35-26) will be matched up in Gainesville. Should both FSU and Florida advance, the 'Noles will be headed to Gainesville for the Super Regional for a two-of-three series. TALLAHASSEE -- Florida State's players and coaches said the right things Monday upon learning of the three teams selected to join them in the Tallahassee Regional.

They praised the power of No. 2 seed Auburn and the tradition of No. 3 seed South Alabama. They even spoke highly of No. 4 seed Army, which will be making just its third NCAA Tournament appearance in school history.

"When you see a team like Army, you don't think of a baseball power," FSU coach Mike Martin said. "But in postseason, everyone can play."

Not everyone was so complimentary.

Noting that Auburn finished the regular season in a three-way tie for eighth place in the Southeastern Conference, Baseball America's Web site declared Monday afternoon that FSU had "received the easiest draw of any No. 1 seed."

It wouldn't be difficult to make that case.

Not only did Auburn (32-24) fail to even earn a spot in the SEC's postseason tournament, but the Tigers also dropped two of three in a series at Tallahassee earlier this season.

South Alabama (34-25) is making its 23rd NCAA regional appearance, but the Jaguars had lost five of six games to end the regular season before winning the Sun Belt Tournament.

And Army (38-12) enters the postseason with just one victory against an NCAA Tournament team -- the Black Knights split a two-game series with Rhode Island.

Still, Martin insisted that the Seminoles can't afford to be overconfident. He remembered the 2002 postseason, when FSU was the nation's overall No. 1 seed and fell at home to a surprising Notre Dame squad.

"I would think that a few years ago that the name Notre Dame didn't scare a lot of people, but they came in here and took care of business," Martin said.

Auburn vs. South Alabama will kick off the regional at 1 p.m. Friday, followed by Florida State vs. Army at 7. The Black Knights are expected to throw left-handed ace Nick Hill (10-1, 1.22 ERA) against the Seminoles' Michael Hyde (7-2, 4.48).

The start will be special for Hyde, a sophomore right-hander from Tallahassee.

"I am pumped about starting Friday," Hyde said. "I have been at this stadium for regionals as a fan, and the atmosphere is amazing. I can't wait."

FSU is expected to save ace Bryan Henry (8-2, 1.44) for Saturday.

The winner of the Tallahassee Regional will be paired up with the winner of the Gainesville Regional in a super regional.

TALLAHASSEE — It wasn't much more than a month ago when Florida State's post-season future appeared to be on the fast track out of Tallahassee.

But the Seminoles turned it on in the final weeks and were rewarded for their 50-win season by being named a No. 1 seed in the Tallahassee regional of the NCAA tournament.

FSU, which won 16 of its final 21 games, will host fourth-seeded Army on Friday at 7 p.m. No. 2 Auburn plays No. 3 South Alabama in the other regional.

"I am sure the success we had in the last four weeks raised our RPI to warrant a No. 1 seed in this regional," FSU coach Mike Martin said.

The Seminoles (50-18) will host a regional for the 22nd time under Martin. If they win two series, they would play the winner of the Gainesville regional in a best-of-three super regional for the right to advance to the College World Series. That super regional would be played in Gainesville if Florida wins its four-team regional.

Auburn (32-24) did not qualify for the SEC tournament after going 13-17 in the regular season, yet still managed to secure a No. 2 seed in the regional. FSU won two of three against the Tigers early in the season.

The Tigers will play South Alabama (34-25, Sun Belt champions) in Friday's opener. The Jaguars last appeared in a Tallahassee regional in 2003 and actually knocked the Seminoles into the loser's bracket before FSU rallied for two wins on the final day of the regional to advance.

Though Army (38-12, 19-4 in the Patriot League) probably doesn't evoke much fear from the Seminoles, the Black Knights do have a talented pitcher in sophomore Nick Hill (10-1, 1.22 ERA).
