Quote:The Seminole Tribe of Florida said it still backs Florida State University's use of the Seminoles nickname, just a week before the NCAA meets on the appropriateness of American Indian nicknames.

Oh this looks interesting.
No doubt...all the phony do-gooders, that comprise these wimping and whining ACC teams...immediately after returning from the funeral
service of YOUGEEAYE's dog, which DID resemble his homely wife...
Were "up in arms"
The facts are...The NCAA lied in its initial reports and either twisted
and'or left out...important quotes. This was all pointed out to them
by FSU President TK Weatherall in his letter to the NCAA.
#1- The Oklahoma Seminole Tribe, NEVER once objected. There
only stance was..."If it's OK with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, then
it's OK with us."
#2 Mike Osceola, Chief of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and the
Great-Great-Grandson of Chief Osceola...was a little more sarcastic.
His quote was..."Just another example of the white man trying to tell
the Indian what's good for him."
#3 Osceola and Renegade are not "Mascots" of Florida State...They
are the "spirit" that embodied the Seminole Tribe of Florida...The
only unconquerd tribe on the North American continent. They HAVE
never signed a peace treaty with the US Gov't...just a truce.
#4 Furthermore, "Seminoles" is not considered the Florida State
nickname. Rather it is the embracing of this undefeated tribe...
"The Seminoles of Florida State!"
#5 There is NOTHING that FSU does with anything regarding the
use of the word "Seminoles" without first receiving permission from the
Seminole tribe of Florida. That has been on-going for 30 years.
That should handle all the facts everyone on this web-site needs to
know...All 10 of you.
