North Carolina LB Larry Edwards, a junior from Tampa, might be the most physically gifted player on the Tar Heels' defense, but he hasn't cracked the starting lineup because hasn't demonstrated his dependability, Coach John Bunting said.
Edwards will enter preseason practice trying to displace senior Jeff Longhany for a starting role, in which case at least three starting linebackers in the ACC will be from the Tampa area (N.C. State's Oliver Hoyte and Maryland's D'Qwell Jackson).
"He's had a heck of a spring, and he's out there fighting with Jeff for a position," UNC senior LB Tommy Richardson said. "You just want to see a player grow up and evolve and Larry is still in that process right now. I believe he's on the threshold of being the type of person and player we're hoping he'll become."

He showed a lot of promise his freshman year, and he had a huge interception in the State game last year. I think we'll see big things from Larry this season.
