Striped Crew
I just got word that some exciting things are in store for the Striped Crew. You may already know that they have become a RSO (Registered Student Org.) on campus. They have also been working diligently with the athletic department.

They have planned some tailgates already with residence life and student government for the baseball and softball games. There is one coming up on the 20th that you can get a free shirt if you're a student. That tailgate starts at 2pm.

Nothing is finalized now but I would expect to see some merchandise available for sale shortly. We're also working on improving the distribution model. Having Biz or myself track down students after they have paid online is a nightmare. Leadership positions for the group are also being filled. With more people stepping up, the more we'll be able to do.

Look for future announcements,
-Nick

thats great nick. u and biz are doing an excellent job in creating what will be a tradition that students for years to come will be apart of. we need to get some shirts in the book store and really work on advertising for the b-ball games. i want to see our student section to be full, rowdy, and in nothing but black and gold. it was frustrating this year for me...cuz i was at every game..and u just never knew how many ppl were gonna show up. it would vary every game.

I agree, I went to about 75% of the games and even then it was up and down and mostly down. A game on super bowl sunday? A make-up on Valentines day, fitting but come on. Who's going to go to a game on those days?

The biggest thing is that this campus has no idea how to market effectively. Every single group, KAB, SG, Athletics, Greeks, Business students and even marketing majors just have very few ideas that turn heads or even get the ears to perk up a little. I think it's the mentality that everyone makes a banner for the student center and everyone makes flyers so we'll just copy that. I don't get it.

do u know if coach ingle and the team go around telling ppl about the game? and the whole student center banner thing doesnt work well like u said..but i mean i maybe saw 2 banners all year talking about upcoming games.

the striped crew signs worked..then apparently someone stole them which is just odd. next year i'll just announce we have a game b4 every class. wont help much..but it cant hurt. do we get radio advertising? i mean that would cost some money..but i would also like to see those bleachers in the back being pulled down.

and the big thing to help..we need to win...we were good enough to win last year and we were inconsistent. Whipple and Nickerson are going to be something special, and Wooten is POY candidate. when coach ingle got here at kennesaw it took him about 2 years before he got a winner. now in division 1..i think its gonna be the same..and we'll be competing for the conference..maybe not win, but we will compete.

Ingle and the team don't proactively market the games. They'll tell you if you approach them but nothing like walking the cafeteria. I don't think they should have to. Ingle's already stretched to his limits and the team needs to focus and not worry about attendance. That's our jobs as students.

Banners don't work. There's no reason to make them and no one volunteers to make them.

Signs are expensive and you're right, they got stolen. It's not odd they got stolen, that's what this campus does with corregated signs. Students put them in their rooms.

Radio advertising on KSU Radio would be pointless. You may not even know we have a radio launched in the past 3 months. Advertising on the larger stations would be pointless unless they're going to come out to the game. That's a possibility. I would target Eagle or someone who would carry a broadcast of the game over the air or with an AM affiliate (sports 790... somewhere) but they're mainly interested in SEC ACC games.

Winning is always positive but not controllable by marketing. Think of the Thrashers, they drummed up support even though they failed to make the playoffs till this year then squandered any chance of advancing by laying down to the rangers. "Come to blueland" and advanced ticket sales... huge mailers... billboards... lots of merchandise... all great ways to market. They had a lot more money but they were selling a .500 team which is what we're selling based on the past 2 seasons. It's the hope that we get above .500 that brings people out just like the thrashers.

No one wants to see the convocation center packed more than I do but it's going to start with students who step up and want to make a difference. I'll do my pull with merchandising and anything I can offer through my job but that's about all I have. Graduating I don't have time to do the legwork and networking.
