www.firepaulstanton.com?
I don't know how many of you heard it, but on Saturday morning a caller to Don Helman's show spoke of creating such a website.
I'm not sure it will happen for the simple reason the caller asked how one fires a college president.
However, I would say this. If such a site was created, then whenever someone did a google search on Paul Stanton it would likely come up.
And that would severely damage his rep.
All you need is really one page up and keep it there. It would be nice to be updated, but a simple recap of his career at ETSU would be enough.

I didn't get to listen to the show. How did Don handle the call?

I think domain names are relatively inexpensive these days. Even if it was up for just for a few months it would cause a lot talk. I'm sure those that donated for football's return might put their refund into funding that website. GoDaddy.com is one I have heard about a lot.

call in
BigBluefan,
I listened to the show and the caller said he was putting up a web page to this effect. Don handled it the usual way by not really getting into the argument about removing certain individuals. Don is really a strong ETSU guy and promotes the school about as much as anyone has ever done and I always listen to him when I can. The bottom line is though he feels he cannot get into the controversial stuff and tries to keep the conversation about positive things. It will be interesting to see how the web site goes. These types of things can sometimes bring about change and we certainly need that.

He said he didn't know how to fire a college president.
The thought occurs, however.
Since The Sports Monster has come on the air, they rarely interview real people.
Instead, they interview flacks. Lori Worley. Michael White.
And you're not going to get objective nitty gritty from flacks.
In theory you'll get it from sportswriters, but when White then calls up and tells Joe Avento how well he did as a co-host on the air it creates the impression local sportswriters merely want to get pats on the head from the team's they cover instead of break actual news.
Now, in Avento's defense, there's not much he can do when a PR guy calls up and says what a good job he is doing.
If White had complimented him in public, it shows they have a good working relationship. But in the current environment, a public display puts Avento in a comprimising situation.
Now, I understand a few days ago Helman had Jason Witten on his morning show.
Good. Great.
But is it that unexpected to have an interview with a pro football player from Elizabethton?
And considering who and what he is, might a regular weekly hook up be desired? Certainly the PR it would do for Witten would be worthwhile and for WXSM it would be a coup.
And is it just me, or have I missed Thomas and Julius Jones?
Okay, I'll give you a pass on Julius Jones. I've interviewed him. Or tried to.
But where I'm going with this is a sports radio station is supposed to break news and break it immediately. It is supposed to be cutting edge, the voice of the local sports fan, and insightful.
On WXSM, you get Kenny Hawkins joking with Worley about airline travel.
Not to mention Hawkins speaking of how ETSU is trying to bring back football "The Right Way."
