The Women's Tournament
Everyone on this board always forgets women's. Say what you want about it not being men's, not as competitive, whatever. Just realize that they are as much a school sport as baseball and tennis. I'm looking forward to cheering on Belmont's girls.
In fact, we believe so much in our women's team, the cheerleaders and pep band are going. Can anyone else say that about their schools? Look at the only bands that went to the men's tournament: ETSU (you were at home, it would've been silly not to have them there), Lipscomb and Belmont. Those two groups of supporters can help your team. Especially in the Dothan Civic Center, where everything that is said can be heard. Start supporting women's basketball. It makes a difference in their play when they know fans care enough about them to travel. How do you think I became known as SuperFan? The girls basketball team.

I would think that our pep band will go, and probably some, if not our entire cheerleading squad.

Belmont will not win the tourny. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jacksonville win it.

Also, just b/c pep bands and cheerleaders are not going from other schools doesn't mean that the schools don't believe in them.
Sending bands and cheerleaders to Dothan is very expensive

The women's tournament all depends on Alysha Clark. If she's on her game, it's been proven that Belmont is basically unstoppable. Catch her on a bad day, and ANYTHING can happen.
I'd like to see our team win it finally. Karen Kemp has been such a class act her entire tenure at ETSU, and the two seniors on this team have been amazing representatives here. You would be hard pressed to find a person with more moral character than Brooke Wilhoit, and even harder pressed to find someone with more heart. She has been incredibly fun to watch at ETSU, and has been a part of some teams with really talented players.

Why are they still having the Womens tourney in Dothan, Alabama? I thought that would have ended when Troy left.

They paid to have it there for the past four years, I believe. This will be the last year it will be there. They are talking about having joint men's and women's conference championships next year. I've heard Lipscomb, Belmont, and Kennesaw as possible locations.

Kennesaw won't host the tournament b/c they can't play in it. Lipscomb doesn't want any part of hosting the thing either.

With better guarantees against a money loss, rumblings are that ETSU/City of Johnson City may put in another bid for the tourney. The women would have multiple venues as potential sites for their tourney, most likely being Freedom Hall (5 minutes from ETSU seating approx 6,000) owned by the City.
Again, hotel accomodations are not an issue with the TRI hosting 160,000 NASCAR fans for each race held in Bristol.
Other potential, but unlikely, sites for the Women's tourney in the TRI would include Viking Hall in Bristol (25 minutes from ETSU seating approx 8,000), Steve Lacy Fieldhouse at Milligan College (5 minutes from ETSU seating approx 2500), Brooks gym on ETSU's campus (seating approx 1500) and the Buck Van Huss Dome in Kingsport (25 minutes from ETSU seating approximately 2500).

Here's an idea: play the tournament at a neutral site like most every other legit conference does year in and year out. I know that is an additional financial burden for this conference but I believe that it is worth it.
Nothing against Johnson City, but it will get ridiculous if ETSU gets to host the tourney every year. At least do what the Big South does and that's play the games at the top seeds home venue, which this year would have been ETSU.

I certainly agree, but as of now it appears that no one wants to host in a neutral site, the chances of losing money are just too great. I'm not even sure that Johnson City will bid on the tourney, it is just a rumor at this point.

There is NO POINT in playing the tournament in the same city at different sites.

A host school or schools in my opinion is okay. Ex: Belmont and Lipscomb get the A-Sun tourney, then it's played either at the GEC or at Vandy's gym.
Jacksonville gets it: play at Veterans Arena with JU and UNF as the host schools.
I think the arena in Duluth would work as well, with Kennesaw/Mercer being the host schools.
There are viable options for neutral sites that would work, and no offense to the Florida schools, but for reasons you guys have mentioned about baseball, I think it would be crazy from a money standpoint to play the tourney down there. The schools that draw are in Tennessee/North Carolina, and maybe Georgia if Mercer has a winning season.
