This is still a team that went 0-20 in the conference two years ago. I understand that people are getting excited with the "success" that the guys have been having, but we have to realize what we had to begin with.
Losing Dapo and not having Eddie completly changed the makeup of this team. This team is still very young. We were picked to finish fifth in the league this year and we will probably end up sixth.
Don't get me wrong, I still think there is a lot this team has left on the table this season, but looking at is as a whole I still think there is room for some optimism

Great post andone and thanks for stirring!
Three recent road games and we now know what happens to the Camels on the road - "L"s. No surprise that the Camels lost to ETSU, but I thought it would be a little closer. Bucs have beaten CU by 24 and 30 this year. I don't know of a team that has won that convincingly in BOTH games in a single year before. After a quick look in the media guide, Ga State beat us by 21 and 23 in 03-04. I'll have to look a little further and see if there's any worse (maybe to CofC?).
I have to admit that after that loss last night, this morning I looked back to read about next year's recruits....looking for hope I guess! I can't wait to see Dapo and Brown in action next year, too.
Looking forward to the Stetson and Mercer games this week. I hope we can do a tad better than the split the rest of the way that andone suggested. CU can win the rest of its home games...I just hope they actually do. I don't know if we can take any in the Nashville trip, though. After having no doubt that we'd have a winning season (esp after Coastal & UNCW), I'm hoping for a 14-15 reg season finish and a 6 seed at the tourney....perhaps vs. Lipscomb or JU. At least 14-16 will still be a continued improvement.
Although we're in the thick of hoops season, I'm really interested in the football program. There's so much mystery about it right now.....we still don't know any players or what the schedule will look like, exactly which schools will be in the conference, where our stadium will be or what it will look like. Lots of stuff to look forward to in the months ahead.
Camelfan, rest your voice Thursday so you'll have it for the Hats coach and the refs! Our corner of Carter is becoming the rowdiest!! Wonder & 20x, where do you guys usually sit?

Troy State beat us by 34 and 38 in 03-04. Charleston won by 25 and 39 in 96-97.
On the other hand, Campbell beat Winthrop by 21 and 17 in 93-94 (when CU went 20-9) but hasn't dominated a team like that since.

I agree this year has been frustrating. I had high hopes after the wins against Coastal and Wilmington as well. I thought we really could have a special year and maybe win 20 games or so. You can't do that when you can't win on the road.
I went to the game at Radford earlier in the year and it appeared that our guys were just not focused. We should have never lost that game. That is the only road game I attended but the ones I have listened to seem much the same way. We have way too many turnovers, shoot poorly and seem to just not be in the game.
When the Camels come home to Carter Gym it is like they are another team. It is really like Jekyll and Hyde. I wonder which team is going to show up. The one that can score 100 points and beat anybody in the conference or the one that imploded at Mercer. There is a lot of blame to go around about that loss. How do you lose a 23 point lead!!!! You need to play a little more conservative and hold onto the ball. If they held on to the ball, ran 35 off the clock and got decent looks there is no way possible that Mercer could have caught up. Instead we make poor decisions, get hurried looks and try to see how quickly we can shoot and give the ball back to the other team to give them opportunities. I know we have a fast paced style and I like it, but when you are that far ahead you need to slow the game down some. Getting in a hurry only gives the other team more opportunities.
I really like our team and I think the guys have had times where they played really well and showed alot of heart. Just look at the first half they played against Virginia Tech. I think one of the best examples of their heart was the Jacksonville game a couple of weeks ago. When I saw Jacksonville's size and considered our past road performance I realized why we got blown out at Jacksonville. They guys really stepped up, fought hard ever though they were outsized and played their hearts out and I appreciate that. You gotta love a team that gives it thier all and I believe they do at home. I don't know what happens on the road. We may not win every game of the road but we should not have lost to Radford, Stetson, Mercer, Kennesaw State or Gardner Webb. The other losses I can understand.
I hope we can finish the season strong and maybe win our last five games and be on a roll going into the tournament. We have the ability to beat any team in the conference. It just depends on which team shows up. The team that shot over 50% from the field in the win tonight against Stetson or the team that shot in the low 20's against ETSU.
I look forward to the rest of the season and to next year. I think that if we get a few more good recruits we can continue to improve in the conference.
Also, I am really looking forward to football.

I don't consider ETSU an inferior at all. I think most were referring to games with teams in the middle and bottom of the conference that we should have beaten. Well now you we are pretty close to the bottom as well. I think our talent level is better than that but needless to say that is where we are.
ETSU dominated us in both games. We really were not ever in the game so I would not refer to ETSU as inferior.

ok andone i do have something to say .... this season started out to be one of the better seasons since i have been here. i really thought we were going to have a chance. things looked real good the first couple games of the season and then we went on the infamous streak at home and i was like wow, we may struggle on the road but come to the carter and you are gonna loose.
i know something was up though about mid way through the season and we had kennesaw state at home on a Saturday game, and won the game in double overtime. the thing is the place was packed and even the student sections were slammed packed, but.....the crowd sucked until about the last minute of regulation, when Eric smith hit the three to send us to overtime. im trying to say that this has happened more than once this year. i can tell when we are going to loose and win, just because of the crowd. if there is nothing going on then we have this mentality to just die out and loose confidence, but no one sees that....i think we will continue this streak of "choking"until we come together as a crowd and fan base and support the camels, to have the loudest play to play in the conference we haven't been living up to that. compared to the UNCW game other games don't even compare, so unless we get a great fan base and constant games being packed i think we will continue to suffer, because talent wise we are STACKED and i think we are going to be great next year talent wise but if there is no support then its pointless

i do agree we started off with a great team...i think j-rod and his talents and contributions to this years team has been phenominal...but we have plenty of other guys who can do the same, so why havent they been playing up to par. i mean pringle and bishop need to be close to the top scorers every game, and we a big man down front b/c thats where we are suffering. next year i guess it will be better if DAPO returns and is healthy. but for this year i got a feeling we will have to play either belmont or ETSU, for the first game of the tourney if we make it and i dont see us coming out of that with a W because i dont the confidence in the players...but i will stand corrected if they get past the first round in the tourney
