I think what you mean by this post is pointing out the lack of students or attendance to the games. I feel ya on this. We have 20,000 students and the attendance is lame. Not to mention we have the Striped Crew, and from what I understood had a lot of members but there is lack of attendance even by them. I split time playing drums for the pep band. I get to see who comes and who doesn't. It's crazy that our club level hockey team draws well but our D1 basketball team does not. I wish students would support the team, maybe having some school spirit and stop wishing they were in Athens. Nick, you got any ideas to help boost attendance? I even think the school does a very poor job of advertising the games.

we dont advertise the games at all. we put up schedules all over, but unless you take the time to walk up to them and read down it, noone is going to know cept for the true fans.

what someone needs to do is put flyers up every time were about to have a game, also ksulife could do some things b4 the game. and maybe if they gave out some shirts more often..also another thing, which will start to happen next year is winning. were 8-13 in our second year of d-1, and there were plenty of times on our schedule non conference and in conference we could of pulled off the win. we very well could be over 500 if we just finished the games. but yea about our first years in d-1, we are doing A LOT better then just about every recent division 1 newbies. we have a very good chance of building a great basketball tradition, as long as Ingle stays as the coach.

also if the striped crew facebook group could send out more invites, we could get a lot more students there.

The striped crew is about to get revamped. As a co-founder, I've been working behind the scenes to get attendance up. In fact, I came up with the mission to be the organization responsible for boosting student attendance. With that said, that's a tough task. Here's what I know.

Recently, Waples hired the founder of the Striped Crew to a position in the Athletic Department for student attendance. With more than private funding, I think he has some good ideas and can devote more time to his group. I already know he sends messages out for each game and sometimes creates an event on FB. Facebook is horrible for events even though you would think otherwise. People don't read, events get shrugged off or forgotten, the message is going to the wrong people.

Student involvement is key and I'm not sure why there are not more coming out to these games. We had more in preseason games than we are having right now. The attitude just seems a little hokey like high school when your team loses, you don't have to come to the games anymore. SC attendance is down even though it has 800+ on FB and 160+ with socks.

Some hurdles:
-99% of our students could not list 3 other schools in our conference which makes 0% chance of a rivalry anywhere. If I had to choose I would pick ETSU basketball, solid competition for 2 years now.

-We boost and market the largest OOC games to the max and then we lose which is not the same as the seniors remember KSU basketball and not the way freshmen want to see KSU basketball. I believe that playing these games are a strong reason why we are not scraping the barrel and Ingle knows this. You only get better by playing better teams. Perhaps putting that much effort into a conference game is needed. UNF is our oldest competitor but they seem to be having problems in basketball.

-It takes sweat to promote, much of which a budget that KSU carries cannot afford. Internships are beginning to pop up and some other programs to increase the amount of marketers but it's on the low side of things.

-SC understands you cannot see socks unless they're on the cheerleaders or a member is walking around, we are working on finding the right identity and distribution vehicle to get to the students.

Oh and as for what I was trying to point out is that we are lying to the NCAA which I believe is common practice around the league. :)

Very good information Nick. I really hope you and others can achieve the goal of getting the attendance up. I went to Georgia Southern for three years before KSU. They had mini gameday billboards they would put up at strategic places around campus menitioning who was playing and at what time. This could be an idea to help advertise. If you need any help let me know.

Jeremy

p.s. Tell Waples to get us some football!

I'm trying to get the SC founder on here. Anyone know why the registration wouldn't take? We'll see if we can get him on here because I know he wants passionate people like he is to get their ideas.

That mini-billboard (or hell, massive billboard alongside the Convocation Center) would be awesome. I'm going to start brainstorming ideas and pricing supplies. I can do a lot of the leg work but I also have a 9-5 so my prep-time and the likes is very limited. Plus I'm graduating in May but that doesn't mean I have to stop promoting KSU sports...

yea get biz on the boards.

and hell i'd be willing to put some money down to help advertise for basketball, whether it be a big ass banner or flyers or w/e.

i mean its only a matter of time till ksu breaksout and starts beating the a-sun schools left and right, but i would love to see more support at the games now. i mean the FIU game i was at where we lost by 2, we would of won if we even had half the students from the UNF game come.

btw, we need to get some striped crew shirts or something. i'd help pay for it if needed.

We need something on the side of the convocation center that everyone will see going back and forth from the parking deck. A cheap banner would do... but if the school was serious, some type of way to list when games are going to be would be nice too.

I dreamed up something the other night about this. There's all that blank space that could be used for something. Here's what I photoshopped a few days ago. The pic is from when the construction was still going on but you get the point.

We're trying to get a group together to come down... I know we had a nice crowd at the women's game the other day...
You want attendance to go up, it will take doing what we're trying to do and GETTING OUT of this conference. You guys have a great opportunity to add football, get into the Southern or Big South with us, and grow your program. Kennesaw has all the tools to become a MAC, Sunbelt or C-USA school in the next 10-15 years if you guys will get after it a little bit.

i could def see us in the mac, sunbelt or c-usa, but that wont be for a while, but first we need a football team. i can tell if the school somehow does get a football team, it will eventually come 1A within a few years much like South florida, uconn, central florida, fiu, and Florida atlantic did. i mean we do plan on having a stadium in the masterplan for the school and everytime i hear about how much a stadium would cost for the school they always say 20-25 mill..now you wouldnt spend that much if you werent thinking bout 1A. personally i dont care if we play in a highschool stadium, or if we just play 1-aa forever, i would just love to have football.

glad you guys are coming to the game, so far the games between our schools have been great
