To me, this is almost comical! Who cares, it looks like its almost a done deal. Stanton announced at the press conference that the 3 quarterback scholarsips have ALREADY been endowed. Also he announced another person has already sent in a $100,000 dollar check.

This is more than 10 times what they claimed to have raised in the final fundrasing campain....

I'll tell you why you care.

Because this could have happened 10 years ago and instead they ran off three athletic directors, seven years of football (minimum), the Southern Conference, numerous media, coaches and athletic personnel and lost tons of credibility.

But they'll use people like you and instead spin this to "We fully funded the program with 63 scholarships and brought football outside!"

Those three quarterback scholarships are the result of extortion, plain and simple.

You really need to think about resigning as moderator if you believe "Who cares about this picture?"

We do. We all do. Scholarships or no- this program is going to suck if you let these two have anything to do with it.

Fan1 I LOVE THAT PICTURE!!! I think they could just show that in the paper with the caption, WILL PLAY FOR MONEY!
We're on our way, great job to the Foundation by handling things through diplomacy.

I'm stunned that football could be returning this quickly. I personally thought you guys were crazy for thinking it could happen! lol..... but wow, could this be some sort of record? "Shortest gap from canceling football and then bringing it back"

edit -- this caught my eye on your website:

They need $300,000 in hand by March 31, 2007
(that seems like a lot, but then I got to the next line....)
They need $15,000,000 in hand by July 2008

I'm sure they have a plan to get it, but that sure does seem like a lot to raise in about a year, from march 07-july 08. Hope you guys make it!!

Let me tell you why this was done.

Stanton and Mullins are not popular figures in town. They are not getting the fundraising they want- not only for new and needed athletic facilities- but for things like a new Pharmacy School- which evidently is six million dollars short of a $16 million funding goal.

This is difficult way to do it- because it's putting more money on the credit card- but they realized the only way they could raise this money (or "monies"- as Stanton said. Am I the only one who wants a College President to be able to use proper grammar?) they wanted was to have a feel good action like this.

What I really think will happen is that the students will approve the fee change. 18-22 year olds are rather liberal- liberals will vote to raise taxes if they think they're getting something in return- and besides when the fee is fully realized the students that will be paying it are 13 now.

Yep. Liberals LOVE to raise OTHER PEOPLE'S taxes. Even little brother.

The TBR will take that into consideration and rubber stamp it.

I'm guessing that will get the stadium built.

And I'm also guessing that they'll operate this as a loss-leader. All football programs are. So I wouldn't put too much in to the "this is a 100 yard field" cliche.

Mercerfan, I read that today there has already been $350,000 donated. So that step is down. Hopefully Stanton will get out and lead the fundrasing effort...he is good at raising money.

Where do you figure?

They're currently six mil short on the Pharmacy School.

He's going to leave ETSU in a lot of red ink.

Mercerfan---

ALOT of donors cut ETSU out in 2003 over the decision to drop the program, now that it's brought back, which is what all these alleged power donors said they wanted, we'll see. The step now goes to everyone from former players/car dealers to country music singers, former players and other insanely rich ass people to open their wallets. It's also time for the community to do it, they said they would, so Stanton and Mullins have called the bluff. It's PUT UP OR SHUTUP TIME!!!

ETSU football was eliminated for "financial reasons."

Looks like it will be reinstated. Perhaps you two could attend ETSU and learn how to read a thread :domokun: 05-stirthepot
