Convocation Center (new design?)
I just received an announcement for the groundbreaking...September 1st at 11:00 a.m. An artist's rendering of the building was included and it looked different than all the other pics I've seen (on the web, in fund-raising publications, etc.) On this one, the entrance is centered between two colannades (vs. to the side of one), making the height of the front of the building not appear quite as overwhelming. Also, the roof over the arena is rounded on the new pic (in keeping with the ceiling on the interior pics that have been published). Not sure if it looks better or worse, just different.

Also, I stopped by campus yesterday and it looked like they were painting the interior of Carter (at least the walls...not sure about the ceiling).

The top pic has been on CU's website and fundraising material.

The bottom pic is on the groundbreaking announcement.

umm nice design on the new one ... kinda resembles more of the pharmacy school building going up now here on campus......

and as for our court not being regulation size its most def regulation size, we wouldnt be able to play if it wasnt, its just b/c our place is so small that whats plays with the eyes kinda but on the other hand there is no place like it in the conference(gettin in coaches and players faces and the closeness is unbelievable)

but i cant wait til this thing starts to be built

I like the old design but the new design matches the other architecture around campus. The front of that old design would have been a little overwhelming on the corner of that intersection. It will seat around 3,000 and they're hoping to be playing in it in two years, maybe the same year football starts.

As far as Carter not being regulation, I haven't heard anything about this until I read it in a recent article (can't remember which one or where it was from). I really can't believe that it's not regulation.

I'm like you 20X, I can't wait for that first game in the new place but I'll miss that atmosphere in Carter.

Yeah. I like the old design just because its different then the other buildings at Campbell. Are we still getting a practice court on that thing?

I learned to love Carter. Being that close to everyone.. the players, ref, coaches and to the people around you. Carter was a unique experience.

Congratulations on your new arena, though I would have liked to have seen you guys build it to around 5000 or so, giving you guys more room for growth. I think if Campbell can continue to improve, 3000 will be easy to fill.

yes, CU could have built a 5000 seat arena, but 3000 is all we need. You still want to create a demand for your product and let's be honest how many times is CU going to fill up 5000 seats compared to how many times they will fill up 3000 seats.

3,000 seats will be a nice fit for CU and the community in general. There won't be many times if ever that they will need more or fill it as it is on a regular basis.

It will def. create a raucous atmosphere. ETSU has longed for it for years playing in that freaking cave.
