Dale Steele, brother of Florida State linebackers coach Kevin Steele, is a college football coach of 30 years' experience. He is currently Assistant Head Coach at Elon University in North Carolina. He came to Elon from East Tennessee State University where he was also the assistant head coach of the wide receivers and the punt team.
(offensive line in 1980, tight ends and kickers in 1981, tight ends and recruiting coordinator in 1982), St. Charles High School in LaPlace, La. (1983), Steele has also been an assistant coach at A.C. Flora High School in Columbia, S.C. (1976), Ball State University (graduate assistant/offensive line in 1977), University of Wisconsin (assistant offensive line in 1978, offensive ends and head junior varsity coach in 1979), Tulane UniversityWichita State University (outside linebackers, 1984-86), and Kansas State University (tight ends and offensive special teams in 1987, wide receivers in 1988).
He helped Tulane to advance to the 1980 Hall of Fame Bowl, marking his first collegiate postseason appearance as a coach. As a player, Steele competed four seasons (1970-73) as an offensive guard and a defensive tackle for Autauga County High School (Prattville, Ala.) and a pair of campaigns (1973-74) as a walk-on offensive lineman for the University of South Carolina.
Steele served East Carolina University as its recruiting coordinator for three years (1991-93) and was promoted to assistant head coach status his last season (1994). He worked six seasons at ECU (1989-1994), coaching the wide receivers and helping the Pirates in both the 1991 Peach Bowl and the 1994 Liberty Bowl.
After that Steele was the head coach and director of athletics at Northern Nash Senior High School (Rocky Mount, N.C.) for four years (1995-98). Then he moved on to Baylor University, where he served as wide receivers coach from 1999-2002. Kevin Steele (Dale's brother) was head coach at Baylor during that time period.
