Let's just say you fired Murry Bartow
Which they aren't going to do, not after "improving" the team's record to 7-7 and giving him the long term contract. He's Mullins' boy and is smart enough to know that if he talks with a drawl fans will accept him and nobody either is smart enough or gutsy enough to call him out on the textbook lines he gives out to the media.

But let's just say you did get rid of him.

Why does anyone believe you could bring in a better coach? You know all David Mullins wants is a puppet.

If Mullins wanted a coach, he would have gone after Jimmy Pastos when he expressed interest in the job.

Point is- Bartow's not your man to get rid of- at least not now. He may be the second coming of John Wooden or the second coming of Jim Satalin.

There are always going to be strategic moves you won't like from even your favorite coach- Bill Cowher was very lucky those fourth down conversions worked for him today- for instance.

But let's just say Bartow was a better strategist. Let's just say he drilled it into Tim Smith's head that the Bucs needed a three against Cincy- they took one- drained it- then won in overtime.

You really think ETSU would be any better than they are right now?

RE: Let's just say you fired Murry Bartow
I happen to think he's a good coach, and firing him would be a truly bizarre act, probably scaring off any qualified coaching candidate. I think he has been and continues to be one of the better coaches in the mid majors. Is this year indicative of his work over time? I don't think so, although there is a lot of basketball yet to be played.

If he chose to leave? I think we should open up the search nationally and find the best person we can with the best experience. I say even though I think very highly of Scott Wagers as a head coaching candidate and think he would be a solid candidate in the mix.

Unless that "qualified coaching candidate" believes the new president means business and the athletic program is heading in a different direction.

Some of their queries would be

"how did they treat the guy who last held the job?"
What do they expect of me, and when?
Are their facilities favorable?
Is men's basketball the signature sport?"
"Is the athletic department stable?"
"What is the full compensation package?"

Remember when you're looking for a good coach you are not buying...you are selling.

etsu basketball would have to hit rock bottom, to the tune of 5-25 for a couple seasons, for etsu to fire bartow. he has to leave on his own accord.

i believe that murray has options if he chooses to entertain them. i have heard the chatter and think there is a possibility he moves on...

that being said...i dont believe it is a strong possibility.

murray is a good mid-major coach. alot of schools would kill for the success etsu has had during his time here. etsu fans expect more than most mid major programs...esp those with quality football programs.

Strange my idea of a good coach is, I don't know someone who knows how to coach. Designs an offense, runs plays, has a clue.

RE: Let's just say you fired Murry Bartow
Mindless stupidity.

If MuBar were actually a good coach he would have been plucked from ETSU long ago. Schools can see the illusion that has been created and want no part of it. The team and program has eroded over time, why the hell would any AD worth his salt sign on to bring in the guy who is partly responsible for that? (I don't blame MuBar for everything btw)

MuBar is an average coach who fell a$$ backwards into Eddy D's talent, dropped down to the abyss of basketball, then rode the Courtney Pigram train until it ran out of gas. Without having a guy who he can simply toss the ball over to with 8 seconds left on the shot clock and watch him pull a rabbit out of the hat, the train has stopped.

MuBar couldn't coach his way out of paper bag, I've seen HS teams that are better coached.
