Disheartening loss
Tough loss tonight. Just an all around bad night for ETSU athletics. The guys shot bad, turned the ball over, and didn't dominate the glass like they should have. It's especially disappointing because we had such an opportunity to advance in the standings.

I think the key to this loss--there were many--but the main key was not having Ben. KSU is a bunch of hustlers, and we needed our ultimate hustler. I don't think this game is game close if Ben was in the game.

Very tough. The positive is that when we got down we didn't give up. Brad was big on the boards again. We just lost the rebounding battle by 1, but they killed us on the offensive glass. We box out better and we win the game.

When Timmy went to the line with .4 sec left to shoot three, I knew we were a lock for o/t and I would have bet $100 that he would have made 2 out of 3 to win. Other than Travis, there is no one else we wanted at the line.

2 out of 3 on the road isn't bad...KSU is a good ball club. This one had me scared. They out hustled us and I agree with Faithful, that if Ben is in there we win the game. I don't think anybody can give us the heart and scrappiness that Ben does.

Got to move past this one. I think that we are improving every game (although not in this one from a rebounding/turnover standpoint), and the chemistry is improving. Looking optimistically, we could run the table the rest of the way out and be 17-3 in the ASun. Not likely but possible. If the ball bounces a little differently we are 6-0 in league play not 3-3. I really feel that next to FAU and KSU, we are the best team in the league. Hopefully we will continue to improve.

Three games on the road in six days. I don't care if your road games are UNC-A, Western Carolina and Appalachian State, or even if you have three home games in six days, that will take a toll on ANY BASKETBALL TEAM. The guys missed Rhoda.
On the women's side, I would love to know how many blown layups and missed open looks the Lady Bucs had tonight.
On another note, I thought it was a pretty classless gesture on the part of whoever the FAU fan was that ran onto OUR COURT at the end of the game, then their team AND COACH go over and talk smack to our pep band of all people?

Gee, I remember a day when ETSU fans didn't say that teams who were playing JUCO ball last year, or whatever Kennesaw State was at, were "good teams."

Fallen a long, long, long way.

They are a well-coached, well-disciplined team that plays within their system. They have a floor general in Golden Ingle, and everyone out there plays with heart and intensity. ETSU just came off of a ridiculous road trip, not becaus of who was on it, but the amount of actual basketball played in that amount of time. That's tough on any team.

KSU is NOT a good team, sorry but then again ETSU is proving they aren't a very good team either. We seem to have talent but can't harness it. Bartow just doesn't seem to have a clue on how to coach. We have a habit of playing down to level of our opponents. KSU has lost to 2 Div II teams this year, heck they even lost to Marshall. Oak Hill Academy has more Div 1 talent then KSU does and could probably beat them. Come to think of it Pitts Brentwood Academy team could probably hang with KSU, they are certainly better coached and more discplined then ETSU.
We are going to win some games on pure talent when things are clicking but also lose some we shouldn't because of lack of coaching. At the end of the Season the SoCon is going to get a 14-16 and the A-Sun will get the same seeding, However there isn't a team in the A-Sun that could play 500 ball in the SoCon and think even the worst team in the SoCon could play at least 500 in the A-Sun and the top 5-6 would win it easy.

Could I just point out that NCAA seeding might not be the sole thing that we should determine a conference on?

Maybe we should start placing, especially at the mid-major level, the more value on the regular season?

Kennesaw may not have D-1 talent, but they are a well coached, well disciplined basketball team. Sometimes it doesn't totally rely on the most talent. Look at the SEC this year. Tennessee and Florida are not the two teams with the most talent on their team, but right now they are the most well coached, and the ones who believe in their system, and therefore they are winning games.
And yea, the regular season should affect the outcome of the NCAA seeding, as it does in most cases, but let's be honest, if it wasn't for Matt Doherty, Cliff Warren and Murry Bartow, not that many people could tell you a THING about FAU, Jacksonville and ETSU this year, other than the Owls are in Boca, Jacksonville plays in a cracker box smaller than CofC's, and ETSU beat Arizona in the NCAA's one year.

What doesn't make sense? It's a fact that Tennessee was widely considered to finish LAST in the SEC this year, and Florida around third or fourth after being decimated with graduation and injuries. Sometimes it comes down to the BEST TEAM effort. Eh, I guess you would have had to play more than pocket pool in the bathrooms at UH to understand.

I didn't say that they sucked... Go back and read the post. All I'm trying to say is it's not always the team with the most talent on the team, or who the pundits think has the most talent. If that were the case then ETSU and G-Webb would be 1st and 2nd in the A-Sun right now, with Campbell and Kennesaw cellar dwelling.
Florida wasn't picked by anyone to be a good team this year... They lost alot of talent off of a great team from last year, and everyone believed that they were a 15 win team in rebuilding mode. Obviously not the case... That's the point I'm trying to make here. The coaches didn't even feel very good about the above mentioned teams...
This is what makes college hoops more exciting than the pro game. We knew going into the NBA season that the Raptors would be horrible, but going into the college season, NOBODY thought that Florida would shoot up to a number two in the nation ranking, while Kentucky would struggle and lose at Rupp Arena to Vanderbilt for the first time EVER. I guess parody is the word I'm looking for here.
My personal favorite example right now is Clemson, struggles with ETSU, LOSES AT HOME to Elon who only has about three or four wins, then beats Wake Forest. But who in their right mind would have said Clemson would have 11 wins by January in this season?
Well, this long post is over, hopefully I explained what I meant a little better to you Rod.
