MACON, Ga. – After another solid year that saw the Mercer softball team go 26-32, seven players were recently awarded for off-the-field achievements with Atlantic Sun All-Academic selections as announced by the conference office.
The 2005 honorees include Amanda Cosson, Crystal Condra, Katie Rosentreter, Meredith Weare, Gigi Eykamp, Sarah Harding and Kristin Talamantes. In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must hold at minimum a 3.0 GPA during the spring semester.
Junior Amanda Cosson and freshman Crystal Condra both finished their respective spring coursework with an impressive 4.0 GPA. Cosson, an infielder from Havana, Fla., is majoring in management and communication. Condra, a native of Suwanee, Ga., is an engineering major.
Katie Rosentreter, a junior from Winnipeg, Canada, is working towards completing her degree in business and finished spring with a 3.9 GPA. In Rosentreter’s three years as a Mercer student-athlete, she has been selected to the A-Sun All-Academic team three times and has twice been selected to the NFCA All-Academic team.
Kristin Talamantes, a sophomore catcher from Burbank, Calif., makes her first appearance on the A-Sun All-Academic team with a 3.04 GPA during the spring semester. Talamantes is also majoring in business-related studies.
The remaining three selections were all newcomers to Mercer in 2005. Meredith Weare, Gigi Eykamp and Sarah Harding all enjoyed successful first years on the playing field and in the classroom alike. Weare, a freshman pitcher from Martinez, Ga., finished spring with a 3.85 GPA and is majoring in biomedical engineering. Eykamp, a freshman infielder form Yuma, Ariz. and biology major, completed the semester with a 3.04 GPA. Harding, a junior college transfer from Riverside, Calif., completed her second term at Mercer with a 3.1 GPA in psychology coursework.
