On another sweltering afternoon in Jacksonville, UNF completed their exhibition soccer season.

The Lady Ospreys had a fantastic result against former Peach Belt Conference rival Armstrong Atlantic 5-0. They are getting great performances from some newcomers. They had a freshman E. Gowan tally her 3rd goal of the pre-season. She seems like the best player on the field for them right now. They also had a remarkable performance by a freshman keeper, making about 4 unbelievable saves.

The men's Ospreys are coming off a mediocre season in D-2 and dont look like they have gotten any better. They field a team of mostly European players who seem to yell at each other throughout the match when they arent giving odd man breakaways to their opponents. I hope there is a worse team in the Atlantic Sun this year but I doubt it. They were pounded by D-2 Top Ten squad Rollins College 4-0, and it probably could have been more lopsided that it was.

RE: Mixed Results For UNF Soccer
Absolutely right re UNF MEN'S soccer. Ray Bunch seemed to be a better coach that the replacement. It is my understanding that there were two candidates in the final selection process, current coach (a goalie coach at a level unknown to most of us) and an assistant at South Carolina who was a proven field coach. The current coach's father made a huge donation to UNF...he got the job. As bad as the results were last year, Ray Bunch was on the way to improvement. It is too bad politics and donations have ruined and sacraficed the men's soccer program. It will never recover. How does one recruit quality players with as dismal record and management by donation. Once coach Bunch left, many of the veteran's left voluntarily. The new coach enters and cuts more veterans, and brings in a group of freshmen still available in late spring of 2010. One usually sees this kind of thing in politics...but I guess the players have to confront the harsh reality of life sooner or later. Since they are in college, one would hope it would be later.
