Exclamation Rivalry ideas for Troy and Middle Tennessee
As some of you may know, rivalries can extend beyond football into other sports. Duke-North Carolina, Xavier-Cincinnati are a few that come to my mind. They can extend into college baseball too. In fact, I can tell you guys of a rivalry trophy that is awarded for a college baseball rivalry: the Silver Glove. The University of Houston's and Rice University's baseball teams annually compete for the Silver Glove trophy. Have you guys ever thought about renewing your rivalries with Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech in baseball?? or men's basketball? And just to make things more interesting, how about bringing the 'Ol School Bell and Harvey/Shinny Ninny out of the closets and using them as trophies for the new baseball or basketball rivalries??? Would bring back some old traditions without having to have football involved.

I don't know if MTSU considers Troy as a rival. WKU AND MTSU have been strong rivals for years going back to their OVC days.

RE: Rivalry ideas for Troy and Middle Tennessee
Doesn't really pertain to my post, but I'll answer the question anyway:
the answer is yes, MT does consider Troy as a rival in football. All-sports not including football, I seriously doubt MT considers Troy to be a rival. In football, yes, there is a rivalry. In fact, Troy and MT play for a rivalry trophy every year called the Palladium. I don't see the Troy-MT rivalry going away because WKU is now in the picture. Rather, I see MT having two rivalries in football, one with Troy, and one with WKU.
Anyway, I really want to hear about Troy and JSU getting it on for the Ol' School Bell in basketball or baseball and MT and Tennessee Tech getting it on for Harvey/Shinny Ninny for basketball/baseball.

MT Athletics is trying to remove itself from the perception that it is 1-AA (FCS) still. Therefore, it is limiting its play with former OVC foes in football and in other sports. The idea is that if we continue to play against the former "lower level" competition (even though its only lower in football) then we will be fighting against public perception that we are a small time program, only competing regionally.

Thank you for your reply, Raider ATO. I do hope though that once MT feels like it has established itself as a big-time program that it will at least renew the rivalry with former OVC foe Tennessee Tech in basketball and/or baseball.
