Mick Lyon Named Women's Soccer Head Coach
The Indiana University Athletics Department has announced Michael "Mick" Lyon as the university's second women's soccer head coach.

Lyon comes to Indiana after spending the last nine years as the women's soccer head coach at the University of Evansville. As the only head coach in the history of the sport at Evansville, he posted a 107-65-18 record.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity at Indiana University. The program has the potential to compete for a national championship," Lyon said. "Since coming to the United States in 1985 I have been well aware of the soccer tradition at Indiana. The men's program has had unparalleled success and our goal is to emulate that on the women's side and to have annual success at the national level. With the talent that already exists at Indiana, the facilities and the academic excellence of the university this can be achieved in the next few years."

Lyon, a four-time Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year, led the Aces to the conference regular season crown in four of the last five seasons. The Aces went on to win the conference tournament crown in five of the last six campaigns and they have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three of the last four seasons.

"Mick brings a wealth of experience and success in women's soccer with him. We are pleased to have him join our team at Indiana," Director of Athletics Michael McNeely said. "The mission of the IU athletics program is to prepare student-athletes for championship competition. This means performance as a champion on the playing field, in the classroom and in life. We are confident that Mick will provide the leadership to accomplish this with the IU women's soccer program."

Evansville's breakthrough year came in 1996, in just the fourth year of the program. The Aces compiled a 16-4-1 record, won the Missouri Valley Conference
