MAC 2007 Rookie Free Agent Signings
If fellow MAC fans wouldn't mind posting any of their players who were signed as free agents...

I'll start with NIU's.

TE Jake Nordin (New England)
QB Phil Horvath (Detroit)

Welcome to the NFL, rookies

http://www.northernstar.info/articles/?id=36361

Quote:Two other Huskies signed free agent deals.

Phil Horvath will be competing for a quarterback spot with the Detroit Lions while tight end Jake Nordin is headed off to play for the New England Patriots. The status of defensive end Ken West was not known as of press time.

Nordin said he was told by the Seattle Seahawks that they would draft him in the seventh round. But Seattle's actions spoke louder than words, as they ended up losing out on Nordin's services.

"Seven teams got a hold of me after I wasn't selected in the draft," Nordin said. "I asked my agent what he thought would be a good fit for me, and we went with what he thought was best."

As for Horvath, Detroit became one of six teams that contacted him for his services.

The old age of current Lions quarterback Jon Kitna, and the fact Detroit drafted Michigan State's Drew Stanton on Sunday, made him feel Motown would provide the best opportunity for him to break into the NFL.

"You don't want to go where they have three or four established quarterbacks," Horvath said. "I felt Detroit would give me the best chance to compete for a job."

Wow. Nobody did draft him did they. I think he can be a pretty solid NFL receiver. Reminds me a lot of Jurevicius!

Toledo didn't have one guy drafted or one free agent?
That's kind of unusual.

we didn't have very many seniors last year, and of them Alston was only good one of the bunch.

Horvath to the Lions? Great, just what we need. Another injury-prone QB. And with Bazuin going to the Bears and the Lions' OL... 04-chairshot

Horvath only gets hurt playing CMU. Since that won't be happening in the future, he should be 100% healthly.

Horvath's with the Lions now. If he doesn't get injured, he'll be ahead of the curve. I still can't figure out how John Kitna was still able to walk at the end of last season. 03-melodramatic

That said, I hope Phil brings his accuracy from the 2005 season with him to training camp. With the targets we now have, he could do pretty well.

Phil Horvath had a better offensive line and WR's his junior year and flourished, i'm sure he could do it again. He would have been a great QB if he had more arm strength. His passes on the run are very weak. Nonetheless, i wish him the best, but i am glad to see Dan Nicholson finally take over.

I don't agree with that statement. Very few guys stick on ACTIVE rosters as undrated FA's. The real test will be if they stick on practice squads or get sent to Europe. If one of those happen then they have a shot in the future. Shows they are worth putting some drafted late and was able to stick on a practice squad, went to europe, stuck on a practice squad the next year and an injury got him some playing time. Next thing you know he is a starter next to Orlando Pace and now has a Super Bowl ring. I guess my point is it does not just end here for these players.
