walks around, inspecting the paint job. Grabs a recliner and pulls his cooler of Oberon next to it.
Ok, I'm good.

So now that I've posted in the Hocky Forum - and have been granted honorary Canadian citizenship - will I need a passport to fly to Canada from Indy?
Speaking of Canadian, has anybody else heard that NBC has a deal with CBC to switch Brent Hull for Don Cherry for one show during the Cup series?
Is America ready for Don Cherry? (excluding Detroit, Buffalo, and other border towns who watch Hocky Night in Canada)

It doesn't really matter. If you take out Detroit, Buffalo, and other hockey border towns there will only be a couple of hundred other people watching nationwide. Can you imagine the ratings for Ottowa v. Vancouver on NBC?

There is no way America is ready for Don Cherry. Americans are too used to the garbage announcers networks lie Versus and NBC hire.

You can sure tell the difference when Versus (sp?) picks up the CBC feed. Their announcers and color guys forgot more about hockey commentary, just because a guy was a talented player doesn't make him an astute hockey commentator.
CBC gets it, those guys all know the game.

Am I weird in that about 80% or more of my watching of any sport on TV, I've pretty much tuned out the announcer, good or bad, and the announcer has to really grate on me like Brent Musberger for me to notice?

I'm actually one of those that will turn on the radio (if available) to listen to those announcers with the TV muted. I was at a friends house last night for the first two periods and I couldn't stand it (the game was bad enough), but on the drive home I listened to Ken Kal on the radio and it was a breath of fresh air.

Generally it doesn't matter to me who is calling the game. I like Mickey doing the Wings game, or Bill Raftery calling college basketball, but it really doesn't matter unless they are just awful. Or complete gas bags that love the sound of their own voice and love nothing more than being right(Theisman, Billy Packer, Kelly Hrudy).
My big complaint with CBC is their Canadian nationalism that is pervasive throughout the broadcast. It isn't just Don Cherry, it is the entire broadcast team. The way they handled the last 5 minutes of Wings/Flames game 5 was a joke. The attention they pay to the crowd in Canadian buildings vs American, and the border line hateful way the talk about the european style, is kind of off putting. I don't think that nationalism has a place in an international professional league. If ESPN were to treat Dominican baseball players with the same contempt that the CBC team treats european hockey players with the american public would go crazy.

^^But you've got to realize that they see it as "their" game, the only one they can really try to claim, except maybe curling. Is curling a sport?
