chihuskie Wrote:[quote="7"]By the way Mr. Lowe, the whole I haven't like Billy since day one is a load of crap. I guess you forgot that I at one time had a Billy Lowe avatar. People on this board treat Billy like something he's not. He's the best player never to play a down of college football.

I challenge you to go back and find something I said about Billy, that says anything negative about him as a football player, a student, or a person. I've never said one time he is a bad football player or person. I've never seen him play, nor have I ever met him, so that would be completely out of line for me to do.

Just because I don't run around with my Billy Lowe woody like half the people on this board (mine's too busy with Britt Davis ;-) ), doesn't mean I'm being disrespectful.

I mock the people who sprew this complete crap about your son who have never seen him play. I never mock your son, and I never mock you.

Maybe you should go back and re-read the thread from the beginning. It was a thread about an unnamed player allegedly wearing U of I gear. That spawned a discussion about the appropriateness. Many people, (notably those who actually donate to NIU) expressed displeasure. You mocked them, and then you interjected Billy Lowe and made ignorant comments alleging some double standard. You completely went on to personal issues never once backing up any alleged double standard. If you look back you will see that those who felt wearing another school's gear is wrong never said it was not ok for one player but ok for another. Similarly, I am sure those that thought it was ok (two of you? )didn't change their mind because you threw in a name. So, yeah, I think you are out of line. In this whole entire thread, not one person made Billy out to be god-like or any of the stuff you claim.[
Quote:

The double standard is that the DL was wearing an Illinois football shirt. Billy Lowe was wearing an FAU shirt and a Florida National Championship hat. Everyone is criticizing the Defensive Lineman for wearing the Illinois shirt, some going to great lengths of "banning him from the team for wearing such a foul-mouthed shirt." The Defensive Lineman that wore the Illinois shirt has been criticized and bashed throughout the entire thread while Billy Lowe, who did the same thing, is getting a free pass. That's how it's a double standard.

Billy didn't get a free pass, I called him by phone and posted that I left a message on his voice mail. I later called him that evening and let him know what I thought about it. I'm sure thats why other poster didn't have much to say about Billy. For those who think that this kid has a double standard your wrong. I'm on this board so I can keep up with all the daily things going on with the alum and fans. I live along ways away and this is the best way for me to keep up with all of the updates on the school and dekalb. If it causes problems for my kid then I will not post.

Compared to what the Defensive Lineman was getting for wearing the Illinois shirt, your son was pretty much getting a free pass.

It's not causing a problem and I hope you don't leave the board just because of this thread.

lmfao 01-wingedeagle lmfao 01-wingedeagle

Here we go again. There is NO double standard. You guys are hung up on a couple comments made by a couple people. The other team is irrelevant. Many of us have said that but you two chose to ignore that fact.

Personally, it would piss me off to see one of our players wearing a ILL hat than a FIU or Florida hat. I still don't like either though.

It seems that what's going on in this thread is a topic is being discussed that many people on both sides feel strongly about, and when that happens, people can get defensive and say things they wouldn't actually mean. This can get particularly out of hand on an internet message board.

I'm sure DogFan wasn't completely serious about pulling out his support for hundreds of proud Huskie student athletes because of the actions of one football player, just like 7 doesn't really hold any personal animosity toward a young man he doesn't really know, and Mr. Lowe wouldn't in the real world be so quick to judge an individual based only on some passion-fueled posts on an internet message board.

I agree with HMM in that arguing topics that people have strong feelings about one way or another can bring out the worst (as well as best) in us. I think we should refrain from making personal statements until we're all standing together in person and cheering the Huskies onto victory! :)
