Do you really understand?
After watching Georgetown defeat Vanderbilt on a shot with just seconds left and viewing the highlights of the Butler-Florida game, I wonder how many of you understand just how difficult it is to get to the Elite Eight. I mean getting to the Sweet 16 is really something to be proud of but making it to the Elite Eight is truly incredible. Not only do you have to be very good but you also need a little bit of luck as well. I assume most of you are watching the tournament and are seeing some very good basketball games. I even thought the Air Force-DePaul NIT game was fun to watch. With several more games remaining, I

It is difficult, especially being the underdog. The refs are obviously aginst you. I was courtside when we played Temple in 99 and Cincy in 2001 and it was bloody. In 2002 for us to play aginst that adversity, and aginst some very big programs, is truly special.
But I hope we do it again soon!!

No, Polish Hammer, it's not just you. Granted, the raw "atheticism" of the players gets better every year, but this tournament I've seen more than my share of bad decision making, poor shot selection in the clutch, you name it. I think a lot of that can be explained by the fact that so many of the best players leave college early, if they even go at all (of course, starting this year, hey have to wait a year for the NBA). You're just not going to see as much smart basketball as you did in the "old days" when even the best players had to play a year of freshman basketball, where the fundmentals were beat into them, then played three years of varsity. That is one reason Kent did so well in 2002 - they were dominated by 4th and 5th year seniors that really were well-schooled and well-coached. In fact, some apologists for the big boys even said that schools like Kent had an "unfair advantage" in that their players, while very good, were not so good that they left school early. As if we are supposed to pity the coaches who are able to get players good enough to go pro early! Well, boo-FRICKIN'-hoo, you know?
