Quote:Athletic director Chris Hill will take another step in his search for a new men's basketball coach at the University of Utah tonight, when he interviews Michigan State assistant Jim Boylen in San Antonio.
Sources said the two will meet in advance of Hill's duties at the upcoming NCAA Tournament regional in San Antonio, as a member of the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee.
Hill could be interviewing others for the job in Texas, too, though it's not known whether that is the plan or whether potential candidates Blaine Taylor of Old Dominion or Kent State's Jim Christian - or others, such as Westminster's Tommy Connor - are scheduled for interviews.
Neither Taylor, Christian nor Connor returned calls Tuesday.
Boylen appears to be at least near the top of the list of candidates, and he has confirmed his interest in the job. The longtime assistant coach is working his second stint at MSU, after spending 13 years as an assistant in the NBA, mostly with the Houston Rockets.

I was not and am not too concerned about the Utah position. Now that it looks like Iowa will be looking, that is a concern. That is a position that JC would take quickly. Iowa will be interested.

I don't think anything will transpire at Iowa. They have a short list and as of now he wasn't on it (according to a source).

Why would a big time program WANT Jim Christian? He's yet to prove he can take a team to the next level. One MAC championship and no wins either in the NIT or NCAA tournament is hardly a great resume from a national perspective.

You're right, as much as we love Coach, he's not attractive to a big time program until he proves himself in the post season. Look at it from their perspective. Why should they take a chance on someone who couldn't make a run in the NCAA's? They would have kept their old coach if that's what they wanted.
Coach is currently qualified for a Seton Hall, Temple, Northwestern, Depaul, or St. Johns type job, not a Minnesota, Michigen, or UK job. He needs to make a run in the tourney like Stan Heath did to get one of those jobs.

lets be honest mr. heath was in the right place at the right time , at ark. you get the chance to recruit some of the best in the nation and he has done nothing...he went to the elite with gw's team....jc is a much better coach than heath ,that is for sure... ;-)
