EMU Men's Basketball Coach
I noticed your coach has no problem chewing his players out in public. He did it throughout the entire game. He looks like a mean dude. I was half expecting him to imitate Bob Knight and smack around one of his players. I only missed one game this season and i never noticed anyone's coach stand out as much as your's. What are your thoughts about his style of coaching? Obviously, you guys have had a better year than in the past, but do you think he should be a little less harsh in public? Just curious.

As to Ramsey's coaching style, I love it. He makes players accountable for their screw ups. You earn court time at EMU, you mess up on the court you are on the bench. You probably missed his little hand slaps when a player has done his job well and is getting rest. He does it all the time. Benching for bad play, congratulations for good play. It's a bit Pavlovian but it's working in Ypsilanti. BTW, I've never heard a player complain either in public or through proxies on the message boards. It is my belief that he is respected by his players. He certainly has the EMU fandom on his side. Overall, I think you are mistaking discipline for harshness.

Rams treatment of his players and the refs isn't even close to Bobby Knight. I would prefer the word instruction rather than even discipline. I think Rams wants each and every one of this players to improve and learn from their mistakes. He's a teaching coach in my opinion. That's why the players respect him.

I haven't seen one player at EMU that hasn't improved over the last two seasons. I think that Charles Ramsey is going to be coaching in at least one NCAA tournament in the next three years, and he will be viewed very soon as one of the very best coaches in the MAC. A healthy Carlos Medlock would have been good for at least two more wins this season, and made the Eagles a dangerous foe in this years MAC tournament. Charles Ramsey seems to be moving things in a very positive direction IMO, and I have never heard a complaint from a player.
