Unfortunately, every time we prevent the Big 10 going to a bowl we are ensuring there is not a Big 10 representative in the Motor City Bowl.

That is faulty logic. You have sniffed a bowl game maybe twice since the mid 90's. The only thing that has prevented a big ten team in the MCB is multiple Big Ten teams in the BCS ( usually having not played one another), and any observor of college football knows that Indiana doesn't have an impact on that.

Maybe they are looking to join the MAC as the 14th team? ;-)

No offense, but with the way Temple's basketball program (men's that is) has fallen the last couple of years...............I can't see bringing Temple basketball into the MAC helping us towards the chances of getting a 2nd bid into the NCAA Tournament like it was once thought. Without that help, I can't see Temple being a good fit for the MAC in sports like basketball and the Olympic sports.

Indiana was supposed to come to Akron, not have Akron go there. What happened?

Why can't they move those lights off the field? That has to cause some real bad sight lines.

I know...that's a p!sser.
they can't put the lights on top of the stadium because the Federal Aviation Administration won't let them because of the nearbye airport.
I guess they're afraid of a plane crashing into them...even though the trees on the hill over the bowl are higher than the lights would be...go figure.
The middle pole on the press box side was painted green so that it would blend in with the field and wouldn't stick out as much when it gets in the way of the TV shot for televised games.

Good lord. I hope you guys get a new stadium close to campus very soon. Or at least get to the NCAA Tournament this year. Something to make up for that situation.

I must say, I have never been to the Rubber Bowl (and boy, that name screams for a corporate sponsorship, Trojan comes to mind) but to me it really does not look that bad. I could even live with the lights on the field (it is almost charming - much like Fenway). Is it really that bad?

The Trojans are playing Ball State in the Rubber Bowl...to continue a thought.
Anyway...the thing was a WPA project, opened in 1940. The city sold it to the University around 1970ish for $1. The U put in the fiberglass bleachers and astro turf new scoreboard and a couple other things.
Before the Rubber Bowl, they played the football games at Buchtel (Book-till) Field, which is up by campus...but it was just a field with a couple of bleachers.
Right now, they have a tarp over the sections in the closed end. Really looks like hell. I'm not sure if they just don't want people to sit there or if there is structural damage to that side of the bowl, which is cut into a hill.
It was nice at one time...the second largest college football stadium in Ohio next to Columbus Community College. But its time has passed. We really need something on campus.
The new stadium, at the time of this writing, is to be opened for the 2009 season.

Your press box looks nice, but that's about it.
I don't know what you're bragging about.
