Spring ball
Spring ball will be here soon, starts March 10th, with the spring game scheduled for April 7th. I know it was asked earlier about position changes, the only change (so far) is Johnson moving to o-line. But there is a surprise, Gotham will start out on the o-line along with Buche, if that stays the o-line will have nice depth...d-line has Jones, Hunt, Riley, Young with depth with Downs, S Smith, Radnet Cozart, and maybe Palsrok...projected schedule in no particular order UM, Vandy, NW, Pitt, Ohio, Ball st, Bowling Green, CMU, WMU, Akron, N I llinois, and Toledo...CMU as of now is scheduled to be last game of year at CMU........that was Radney not Radnet...lol.....thats a 12 game schedule...I guess we`ll see what happens....

Where do guy like Paul Johnson, Maynor, Charles, Larkins and Peterson fit into the offensive/defensive line mix? I also think the following were walk ons last year Demaster and Eric Davis.

O-line
I know that Mayner is still in the running for starting center, coaches like him alot. Larkins saw some playing time last year, Peterson is a big strong hard worker who could see time..Demaster and Johnson are BIG boys. Davis and Charles I`ll have to look in to...if Bedanauro lives up to his press clippings, I can actually see the o-line being Lang at LT, Bedanauro at LG, Fretz (again) at C. Walton at RG and S.Johnson at RT..even if Thomas does come back, he might be too far in the doghouse. Lang is the only "lock" at his position with Fretz and Walton starting somewhere..they have put Fretz at center before......

Thanks, what are Paul Johnson and Demaster up to? I know Peterson really put on some weight last year.

Congratulations. We have lost over 50% of last year's recruiting class some of who never played a down of EMU football. We certainly must lead the league in this category. 03-weeping

This is the reason we need the class of 05 and 07 to step up this year. The guys who left from 06 werent gonna contribute anyways, they couldnt handle the hard work it takes to be a d1 player, and or the had bad attitudes. Lets hope 07 gives us what 05 did..look at the guys contributing from 05...Schmitt, May, Fretz, Lang, Gage, Holtzclaw, Stone, Wyatt, Harrison, Blevins, S.Smith Larkins, Downs, Peterson, Garrison, Bonner and im sure i may have missed a few. The seniors and class of 07 need to step up this year.

Sorry Warrior, but here is the sad tale:

2004-Out of a class of 22 only 10 are still with the team.
2005-Out of a class of 23 only 15 are still with the team.
2006-Out of a class of 22 only 15 are still with the team if you count Allen and LaPorte as coming on board

If the 2006 class were wimps why did we recruit them? And its not just the 2006 class. We've auditioned more running backs than showgirls on boardway. This is why we can't seem to redshirt players. Very few MAC recruits come out of school instantly most good programs allow a redshirt year since we normally don't get 6'5, 300 pound guys, we get good but smaller guys like Buche who really size wise is not ready to start-how he got from 245 to 260 on the recruiting pr is interesting. But even at 260 he would be light to be counted as a starter. Those guys we really lost in 2004 would be seniors now. Through in defections due to the coaching change in 2004 and it doesn't take much imagination to see how our program takes one take forward with each recruiting class only to take two steps back.

I'll apologize for the math re the class of 2006 it appears "only" 33% are gone not 50%.

Yes, I would agree the 2005 guys who have stayed are probably the most talented on the team. I reserve judgement on 2007 to see how many actually show up and how many more want to stick around and get this program on the right track. Personally I would have liked to seen a few JUCOs in this class. Guys like Richardson and Young have been good finds.

If Genyk loses his job, it was wasn't because he couldn't recruit well it is because he couldn't get his recruits on the field to even play.

Cowboy
Cowboy, Im sure that wasnt an attempt to put words in my mouth...I never called any of them wimps! The fact is none of them wanted to work hard on the field or in the classroom. The coaches who recruit these kids visit them quite often, you can only base judgement by what you see...nobody knows if they are going to apapt to the college lifestyle, in or out of classroom (its a crapshoot) the owrkload about triples at college. You do good work with your stats , im impressed, I could never find the time to do what you do....you have the class of 05 at only 15 of 23 still there....well, Montemayer and Richardson graduated and Toth never showed up to quit...I would call that 15 out 20 still there....never make any of these kids stars before they even step on the field, if you might remember, quite awhile back, I said that about Franklin, and Robertson that they just might not be very good college players...looks like I was right.....

Nick Toth is at Grand Rapids CC. Okay, that answers 2005, but not 2004 and 2006 so what happened there? I'm surprised Conner would want another chance and if more if Genyk gave him one.

By the way I am EXCITED about spring football and looking forward to it and I will be renewing my season ticket hopefully the same seats. I don't want Warrior or Eaglefootball to get the wrong idea here, I support this team and want it to do well. I like to see Genyk and his staff to stop playing close and start winning close games. There are players from Lansing like Schmitt who want to win and Wyatt and others I've followed in high school. And I especially want to see Steve Johnson do well since he is from Holt.

But on the other hand, lets be honest here. There hasn't been much to cheer about re EMU football for a VERY VERY long time.

Cowboy, I dont think anybody is disputing the fact that they havent been very good. Ive only been around EMU for about 2 yrs or so, so I cant speak about earlier yrs. I know that the 04 class was not a full recruiting class for Genyk as he honored some of the commits from the last coach, not until 05 was he able to get both feet on the ground as recruiting is concerned...and he did a damn good job with that class And there is nothing to say that 06 wont contribute this year, alot were red-shirted and hopefully they`ve learned and can help. I know you are a season ticket holder and a true fan, as i am also, i missed one game last year at Lafayette (obviuos reasons) annd wont miss a game this year. Im looking for alot of improvement this year...............
