Harper: Interviewed Carl Armato to be head men's basketball coach. The school has not hired a coach and is continuing to interview candidates.

So he is not yet the head coach.

The Trib changed it since this morning, when it said that he was hired. Apparently, this should not have slipped and someone wanted their official line to be that he was "interviewed" but that no coach has been hired yet. Excuse me, but this is not such earth shattering news that the Tribune needs to report when a tiny local college interviews someone. I would trust the earlier rendition of this story.

I agree with someone before you. They changed it because it wasn't supposed to be public yet. They jumped the gun. Now anybody who follows NIU knows that Judson is gone after this year. My guess is Judson was/is supposed to make some kind of press conference before this was leaked.

Promotions for assistant coaches do not mean a head coach was fired, if that was the case Novak would be on his ninth life.

To me going from a head coach at one JC, then to an assistant at a D1 school, to a head coach at another JC seems like a bunch of lateral moves.

When Novak's assistants leave they usually step up...not over (especially to the Univerity of Southern Palatine)

I believe it doesnt matter where you are, if you are head coach that is a step up for being an assistant.

Agreed. There is a HUGE difference. Even if football coaches make what appears as a lateral move(RB coach to RB coach etc.), normally, it is a step up because it is to a BCS school and generally for more $$$.

So was leaving a head coaching position at Rock Valley to become an assitant at NIU a step down?

I'm confused.

I'm with Wazzu - MD, you must stop your spin doctoring. This is Armato bailing, pure and simple. I don't blame him, either.

So that's why Jim Rosborough, after being launched as the head coach at NIU, has been more than happy to stay at Arizona as an Asst. Coach?

lmfao

Quite likely he got a raise in pay as well as the HC job at Harper, that would be tough to turn down no matter what NIU's hoops situation was.
