Obvioulsy, 2 major BCS programs Miami and Georgia Tech think very highly of John Bond.
Both of those programs had offensive struggles as well. Both have good defenses and poor offenses last year. For both of those programs, any OC is probably an upgrade to them.

There is no way to sugar coat it, Bond is horrible.

IMO, our O was good in the past because we had a decent QB threat. That did not happen last year. Coupled with the weaker O line play, it spelled near doom. We won't even mention Horvath, but Nicholson is not mobile. Assuming he will be the QB this year, he had better be quicker thinking as well as extremely accurate with his passing (with the help of our receivers, of course). Assuming that may not happen so quickly - if at all - the defenses will key in on the pocket as well as the back (who most likely will not be another GW). To counter this, it sure would be nice if we would work on some variations in the run scheme. We must keep the defenses confused and on their heels wondering what the hell we are going to do.
+1
You are right about Nicholson. He has a cannon for an arm and it is accurate. His problem is it takes way too long for release time (from the time his brain says "the guy is open" to the time the ball is out of his hand). If NIU can fix that problem, he might be a great QB.
Of course the interior of the offensive line was young and that also contributed to our offensive futility last year. With experience and improvement (our new receivers coach), the receivers will no longer be easily chucked at the line and covered by the defensive backs.
Could we have game planned a little better? Maybe.
Was John Bond the real reason we didn't perform offensively last year? Probably not.

1) I would describe our offense last year as "predictable" rather than "a little off."
2) There is no GW, Turner or Hammock coming back for us this year.

All were once guys who hadn't played much at one point as well. Wolfe and Turner had only played a little before injuries put them on the field full time. And Hammock was an unproven back stepping into William Andrews' shoes.
Everyone starts somewhere. I feel better about the returning backs than I do even about Nicholson and definitely better than I feel about the WRs who need to improve a lot.
If the WRs don't get better- it doesn't matter what the offensive system is.
Players win and lose, not systems.
