Recruiting hoopla---Alota crap!!!
I've been following this recruiting insanity for 20 years now and a couple of truths seem apparent. 1) Go to any recruiting site, rivals, scout, lemming, crabtree, etc. and you can look at prospects by position. Ya get to a point with, say, qb's, wr's, de's, etc, where players are rated to a certain point. Example; Scouts lists of center prospects rating wise stops at 35. I really believe that these lists after the rated portions are a crapshoot. and that the rest of these listed players get very little scrutiny from the scouts and rivals of the world. 2) when we were in the running for a QB in Michigan named Cousins he was a 2 star and when he signed with MSU he magically became OVERNIGHT a 3 star. Doug Wiggins was a 2 star kid from Fla we had on campus-not sure on this- who OVERNIGHT became a 4 star when he verballed to Miami Fl. So, you guys can beat each other up over who has the best class, blahblahblah, and will see how it all shakes out on the field in acouple of years.

First, you have to understand the star rating system. It says right on the site that a 3-star recruit is one who goes to a BCS type school, and a 2-star recruit is for non-BCS--mid-major, or whatever you'd like to call us have-nots.
So by definition, a recruit at a MAC school is a 2-star recruit. Really, they should follow their own system better and change every 3-star recruit at MAC, CUSA, SBC, etc. to 2-star, and every BCS recruit should be minimum 3-star.
It's a self-defining system designed to show after the fact how the recruits were regarded, not an objective rating of the recruits' abilities. It's not meant to be predictive, though almost everyone regards it as such, and wants it to be so. Even the sites themselves would like you to believe that you can rely on their ratings, but all they are really doing is trying to predict which level of D1 the recruits will go to, not how good the recruits actually are, because they really don't have the resources to know that much about 2000+ recruits each year.
They probably are fairly reliable with their 4 and 5 star players, but they are just guessing with the 2's and 3's. It means nothing. There are just lots of fans of the schools that recruit those 2's and 3's that wish it meant something.

I slightly follow the recruiting trail, but mainly only pay attention to the kids' backgrounds once they sign the dotted line. I pay no attention to star ratings or class rankings, no matter where my favorite school is 'ranked'. It's all such a crap shoot. Many star recruits flop, and many "nobodies" wind up stars. Just the way it is.

Yeah, their star ratings are kinda goofy. If a five star player decides to play for a mac team for whatever reason he immediately becomes a 2 star?
