Never mention that you were the most dissapointing team in the league last year.
We suck. We know. We are trying to get better. Your holier than thou attitude is laughable.
I dont think the white Sox are the yankees im just thankful they are not the Cubs! I would not count on a world series while any of you OR your future kids are alive :)

Nice try. Pretty hard to be the "most disappointing team in the league" when you win 90 games. Given the Cubs payroll and pathetic 66 wins, I would suggest the Cubs were the most disappointing team in Chicago. Nice job spending all that $ to get 66 wins.

The Cubs may have spent lots of $$$ last year but everyone and their mom knew they were going to suck. No preseason pundits had them winning their division especially as they continue to foolishly rely on a healthy Kerry Wood and Mark Prior (thank god that mindset is over.)
Whether it be media or fans, just about every season preview I read last year about the MLB season had the White Sox easily winning the division and it was just a matter of whether they could make it back to the World Series or not. Winning the division was not a matter of if, but rather when. A team widely predicted to run away with the division and the odds on favorite at the beginning of the year to win the world series (according to Vegas odds) that fails to even make the playoffs. That my friend, is the definition of dissapointment.[/i]

As you, I, and everyone else knows the AL Central (three teams with 90+ wins) was hands-down the best division in the MLB. Most of your best pitching was in the AL Central as well. Then, we also know that the AL was a lot better than the NL after the beat down the AL gave in interleague play. If the White Sox played in the NL we all know they would have been in the playoffs. It's pretty sad that the Cubs can't find success in a bad NL Central division. The NL Central had four teams under .500 and the best team in the division was 5 games over .500. Has to make you wonder how bad the Cubs would have done in the AL Central.

The AL West was the best division in baseball last year. They had the best record against the other divisons/interleague last year. From the way you sux fans talk, you had the best team in baseball last year. Yeah congrats on placing third in the non-best division last year.

Can't fault the kid for taking the money, particularly if he doesn't have to get his head beaten in.
Just because you give a kid a ton of $ does not mean that he'll be an automatic for the major leagues. I'm a White Sox fan, and have to look no further to Joe Borchard for support for my argument.
Finally. what is the over/under on the # of years before the Cubs burn this kid's arm out ? 2yrs? 3yrs? 5yrs?

Actually, that is not correct, here are the regular season divisional rankings in terms of games above/below .500
T1) AL Central +32
T1) AL West +32
3) NL East +10
4) NL West -1
5) AL East -8
6) NL Central -65 (OUUUUUCH)
If you factor in the AL champion came from the AL Central, the best overall division in baseball INCLUDING postseason was the AL Central, but if you factor in just the regular season it was a tie between the AL Central and AL West.

Yse, but the AL central played more games against other divisions than the AL west. Now MD, I want you to go back to your basic HS math class and tell me what happens when you take the same number over different denominators. I bet you get different results! If you take it over a smaller denominator (AL West), you get a higher result than if you take it over a big denominator (AL Central).
And saying you had the AL champion doesn't mean squat. That's like saying the NL had the overall champion, so the NL was better than the AL, and the Cardinals were the best team in baseball. I think you can ask anyone on this board, and no one will say that the Cards were the best team in baseball last year. Also, the AL Central had twice as good a chance to win the AL than the other divisions due to the fact that they had 2 teams in.

Ok you are BARELY right. Wow talk about shaking my mathematical foundation, but I think I understand now. However, speaking pracitically its a wash. The AL Central and AL West both played +32 baseball outside of the division. The AL West does have less teams, BUT they play more non-divisonal games on a per team basis, so the net result is ALMOST a wash, but not quite.
Winning percentage outside of the division:
AL West 0.538
AL Central 0.537
We are talking a thousandth of a percentage point difference.

The WS were the most dissapointing team in the league last year? This coming from a fan of a 65 win team lmfao
With the Chicago Wolves AHL Hockey team playing as well as they are this year, they have an excellent shot to again win more games than the Cubs. The Wolves play 80 Reg Season games plus playoffs were the max # of wins is 96 whereas baseball plays 66 additional games. Wolves are 28-14 in regulation with 4 OT losses. With 34 games in regular season, they will be at or near 50 wins in regular season play and therefore only need to reach the Calder Cup finals to equal the Cubs win total. With the best record in their conference giving them home ice advantage till the finals, the odds are in their favor.

while not making the playoffs was highly disappointing, stepping back and seeing that your team won 90 games, but the 2 teams in front also won 90+ games makes you realize that there isn't much the team could've done when the Tigers and Twins were just on. I'd say 65 wins with a $100 million plus payroll is much worse.

I think my point is being completely missed here. We have a large payroll but no one predicted us to do any damage last year. Did any really reasonable and knowledgable baseball fan think that team was going to finish at .500 or better while still relying on Prior and Wood? I certainly do not think so.
For most pundits it was a foregone conclusion that the White Sox would win the division and a lot of preseason publications had them returning to the World Series again this year. Regardless of how tough their division was, a team that was widely expected to repeat their World Series run from the previous year did not even make a return trip to the PLAYOFFS. That is the definition of dissapointing.
The only people the Cubs dissapointed were the Tribune Corporate who probably figure they could've spent 1/3 of that amount of money and still come up with 65 wins.
