O i agree, its just that if they are going to be there why couldnt kedz do his part and get them to join, we are all trying and he wants to critcize what we do when he did not do his part.

thats for kedz do deal with cause im not gonna get into that, but i know that they were at the game which helps the attendance, my fraternity was in the red riot section but we didnt really get into the cheers or anything, i suggest going up and down the red riot section to try and get some of the people sitting to come down and join, if u show the inciative then people will come

On top of that, the majority of the people that signed up yesterday did it for the free burrito and won't even attend the game.

Good point. People have to WANT to sign up because the LOVE NIU and supporting NIU BASKETBALL. Not because they like free burritos. That is why "grassroots" is the way to go. There have got to be 250 people on this campus who are "joiners" and "spirited" types. That is why going to fraternities is a good idea. They are largely "joiners" vs. independent. They like getting involved and doing fun, social things. Not all of them may be "spirited", but at least you can go to a place where the majority of them are "joiners", which will give you a higher probability of success.

Instead of free burritos, how bout you get the burrito joint to offer 50 free burritos to the fraternity that brings out the largest percentage of their fraternity (or similar). Get eleven fraternities competing against each other for basketball attendance.

They tried that last year, no one showed up.

And that image is that they are a different frat. If that was the case, maybe they would attend a cheer on the team, unlike many of the other geek societies on campus.

so what if fraternities want to wear their letters, we earn them we want to wear them, we have something to be proud of, as of now, the red riot isnt something to be proud of, and if you ask any fraternity member what is more important to them, their fraternity or the red riot i guarantee u get the same answer of my fraternity every time, just because we dont spend are entire life worshiping what is NIU athletics dosent mean fraternities dont care about what is going on in athletics, but we have other things going on as well besides Huskie Athletics such as my fraternity was out bell ringing for the salvation army from 9am to 1pm before the game and then went to the game, and in my opinion helping the Community is more important then Huskie Athletics.

PS By the way my Fraternity isnt on any type of Suspension or Probation so all the community service that we do is voluntary

Isn't that sort of discrimatory against non greek students. I think it would be wrong for the red riot to show favortism towards certain types of students. I did bring two other students who didn't even know about the game with me. I was into the game, and I even wore my red hair. Btw, I really don't like sitting down near the bottom of the student section because the seats are not very steep and it's hard to see over those in front, and see what's going on in the game. Also, the team and the fans get energy off eachother, but energy from the fans is more reliant on the performance by the atheletes than the performance of the atheletes is reliant on the fans. I tried to be loud and excited, but NIU was playing sloppy basketball, and after a few minutes into the second half, I figured NIU would not be able to make a comeback, and I was right. I wasn't disapointed. I have come to expect bad play and losses against quality opponents from this team.

I didn't notice them doing that. Maybe Kedz needs to have a talk with his Leauge of Gentleman.

yeah it was some gu in a black sigma nu shirt and yellow lettering. It was only me and kristen up there, it was during half time.

Out of all the frats i have the most respect for Sigma Nu by far and it kinda hurt to hear that from them.

Everyone has their bad eggs.

not like it really effected me or anything but whatever

i still respect sigma nu and a lot of its members over every other frat on campus, but thats really not what this thread is about.

Let's get this thread back on track... This is not a pro/anti-Greek website. It is about how to increase Red Riot attendance and support NIU basketball.

Sorry we had one of our members act inappropriately toward you. I appreciate you having good things to say about Sigma Nu inspite of that. I must say, one of the things I am most delighted with about my fraternity (beyond a 3.2 cummulative gpa) is the absence of cockiness/arrogance from our men. They are refreshingly polite and respectful - but not perfect.

That being said, I'll bet 100% of our men would be willing to attend a game and wear Red Riot gear if there were invited as a chapter to participate. Their chapter meetings are on Monday nights (Lincoln room of HSC, I think). All the contact information you need is on facebook.com. Justin, you've met about half of the men, so it should be easy for you to invite yourself to a meeting to promote an event. If you need help, lemme know.

Why don't you, as an alum and very supportive fan of NIU and it's athletics, and a founding member of the recolinization invite them and suggest the become more of an example for fraternaties.

My personal opinion... I think if you are going to sit in the Red Riot section - you need to be wearing red, preferably a Red Riot shirt or similar NIU apparel. Supporting the NIU team at a game is > than supporting your fraternity. If you are not going to sit in the Red Riot section, I suppose sporting your letters is just fine.

Hat's off you Phi Psi for the community service - especially in the COLD like that! Yikes!

I refuse to sit within the red riot because I refuse to watch any athletic event from the end when I could just go sit on a side somewhere and enjoy the game more.

I won't watch a football game from an endzone or a basketball game from an endline. Just not a good viewing experience.

+1. How about this, how about special Red Riot shirts that have the fraternaty letters on them? Is that a good idea? I think it would work as long as it's not breaking a rule I don't know about.

LOL. You got me. But I have to say, I really want to Red Riot to succeed and prop up Huskie Basketball as much as possible.

Good one for pointing that out, however. lmfao

Another good organization to get involved is Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru). I spoke at one of their events earlier this semester and they get about 150 students to attend each week. They have a time for announcements etc. Justin is a Christian - call Brent Batiste and ask him if you can make a Red Riot announcement at the next Cru meeting. I'll bet you could get Cru to make a basketball game an official Cru event. Would you like to get 150 new people sitting in your section?
