The students at Ohio State are really upset that only 1,100 tickets were set aside for students to purchase. The article said of nearly 52,000 students, 6,000 of them were entered into a lottery to have the opportunity to purchase 1 of the 1,100 tickets. The tickets for students are $185 for the national championship. You might ask what other students had to do to go to the game???

They had to purchase a $2,000 university sponsored package! That is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion.

Although I don't even have the $400 to go to the Pointsettia Bowl, I couldn't imagine having to pay $2,000 as a fan to go to a game. I'm thankful I go to a mid-major.

If NIU was in a BCS game I would do whatever I had to do to get there.

Not just BCS, but the National Championship game. Cheering on the Huskies in the National Championship is worth way more than $2,000.

Maybe the OSU fans are so used to competing for the national championship and playing in BCS games (aka spoiled) that they can complain about $2000 ticket packages.

You get what you pay for. The Huskies give you plenty of bang for your buck. You want more bang, that's going to cost more bucks.

On the other side, if SIU were to make it to the Div. 1AA championship game, their ticket package would cost less than NIU's Poinsettia Bowl package.

NIU and other midmajor players are like the local independent pharmacy competing against Wal-Mart's $4.00 perscription plan.

Money talks. Big Money talks and walks bigger.

I would suspect a large number of OSU students(percentages) are from a higher socio-economic grouping than are the majority of NIU families. Both schools may have their share of wealthy or upper class families, but I imagine those schools consistently at the top of the football food chain have a greater % of more affuent students than does NIU and our bretheren.

It's the fundamental reason why it makes me chuckle to occasionally read some rants about why were are not pursuing a bigger athletic pond in which to swim than the MAC. NIU students are typically first or maybe second generation college students from middle income families.

The mere fact that some on the board and many others not DogPound members are unable to find their way to nor afford the trip to CA. sez it all.

Ahh, I don't know about that Cyber. Where you there in September? It appeared like a lot more white trash rather than "weathly/upper class" kids. If anything I think Ohio kids with $$$ go to Miami. I wonder how many out of state'rs go to Ohio State. I would think a lot less than a Michigan or Indiana. I think it has to do with more that they are a HUGE university and therefore, just have more demand because there are more people.
