That's a good point. Ball State's Nate Davis and UT's Aaron Opelt were Top 5 QB's in the state of Ohio last year. One recruiting expert even said that Opelt would have been #1 if he would have camped against the top QB's over the summer. I'm sure the same could have been said about Nate Davis.

And four MAC schools are still in the running for the 11th ranked All-Purpose Running Back in the country. 11th in the country!!!!! 04-jawdrop

I thought it was 6 MAC schools:
Akron
Ball State
BGSU
Miami of Ohio
Ohio University
Toledo

Miami University asshat.

Better tell Rivals.com and Scout.com.
I live not far from the "U".Down in South Florida it's Miami of Ohio.

And, where I'm from, "da U" is known as Miami of Florida, the Coral Gables Technical Institute, Donna Shalala's Home for Wayward Boys, or simply as the Dade County Correctional Facility. Take your pick.

True, but you tell me how much Bryan Pata and the fine scholars who suited up against Florida International are benefitting from that marginal difference.

I'd rather root for my Miami at 2-10 than that one in a year in which it wins the BCS title.

Akron just got a commit from a pretty darn good 3-star offensive lineman that had earlier committed to Michigan State. The MAC is getting some really nice verbals so far this year. UT's got a verbal from one 3-star and close to a few others, and we went 5-7 this past year. I haven't following CMU/WMU too much, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have some really nice verbals too.

=>Well, in some instances yes, but not necessarily here since he also had offers from BUGS and Toledo.

He is a good student and per all articles I have read on him on Rivals.com the past year, he wanted to play for a spread offense. He worked out of a shot gun in high school. Throw in that he is a nearby kid (lives in Dayton), I think Miami made sense for what he wanted.

You win some you lose some. Miami has got some kids UT and BG offered, and UT has got some kids Miami and BG has offered. And to take it further, Akron has got a lot of recruits that the rest of the MAC has offered. It happens. How they progress and develop is all that really matters. Ohio State gets some really good 4 and 5 star recruits, but some of the better players they have had in the last 10-15 years were 3-star recruits that had a lot of MAC offers.

NIU just got a commitment from a 3-star offensive lineman today as well.

Offensive Guard Keith Otis

NIU has pretty much filled up all 15 of its scholarships. We have 14 verbal commits and we are waiting for Missouri DE John Hopkins to make his commitment to NIU. He said he was going to give his verbal to NIU last week, except he couldn't make it out to NIU this weekend because of the snow storm.

=>Dayton Daily News story...

Northmont's Belton picks RedHawks

Quarterback likes Miami's development of pro QBs and being close to home.

Quote:The 6-foot-6, 226-pounder picked the RedHawks over Kansas State. The mobile left-hander also had considered Cincinnati, Bowling Green Toledo and Duke.

"I only took visits to Miami and K-State because they really stood out," Belton said. "I was at K-State for my visit when they beat Texas, and the atmosphere was exciting. But Miami is great, too. (Ben) Roethlisberger and Josh (Vandalia Butler graduate Josh Betts) both went there and had success with an offense that helped them move on to the NFL.

"It's an offense I'm comfortable with. I feel like I can go there and the coaches can help prepare me for the next level.

"Miami being close to home was also a factor. I wanted my family and friends to be able to see me play in college. I've got a brother who's a sophomore and one in the sixth grade, and they've really supported me. Nothing will be better than to look up in the stands and see my baby brothers cheering for me."

***

As a junior, Belton threw for 2,700 yards and 30 TDs.

***

It has six quarterbacks listed on the roster, including starter Mike Kokal, a junior. Two of the QBs are walk-ons who may not be with the squad next season, and two others may be switched to other positions. So Belton could show up in Oxford as no worse than No. 3 on the depth chart.

I agree the MAC is having a very good year recruiting, Akron & Miami seem to be doing very well, Huskies are having a nice year, but not over the top. Can someone from OHIO explain the recruiting success AKRON has developed over the last 2-3 years? Facilities? Campus? Education? Coaching staff?..... AKRON fans you are getting the players.

Brookhart and his staff have a lot of ties in Pennsylvania and are getting a lot of PA kids. They are selling the program by the indoor practice facility and plans for a new stadium on campus. The investment they are making in their football program is catching the eye of a lot of recruits.

Cats Claw, you obviously don't know Devil Grad. Statements like that are the norm from him.

Rumor is that Edmonds has committed to Ball State. Hoke is doing something right at Ball State. Davis last year and Edmonds this year.

Central Michigan may have lost a recruit, JJ Watt, because of Kelly leaving. JJ Watt was a 1st team all defense player from Wisconsin. He re-opened his recruitment and Colorado came looking.

Watt was never a "firm" commit, so its not surprising he's still available. However, Colorado is applying a lot of pressure, and he is making another visit this weekend. CMU is not out of the running, IMO.
