Another great job by the defense holding them and forcing a punt. Unfortunately that meant the Hokies booming a 58 yard punt down inside the 5. And another quick kick by Machen, this time on 3rd down. Nothing like conceding your offensive futility.

Only + yardage we seem to be getting is on penalties; I'd swear if we get any points today it will be on special teams or off the defense. Why does Machen try and work the short outs so much? rarely goes downfield, throws the short outs on 3rd down 3 yards before the sticks. We hope to take this into the halftime down only 6-0. Awesome job by the defense today, especially from the guys up front. No doubt about it, with Edelman's creativity on offense we're leading this game right now and sending shockwaves across the sports reports. It's quite obvious this offense will not be productive with Machen taking snaps, I'd like to see what Pastore can do in the 2nd half, but I highly doubt Martin switches unless he gets hurt or the Hokies start pulling away.

No fan of moral victories, but if these guys can maintain this and get out of here like this it should be a huge moral boost. then hopefully these kids take matters into their own hands and win the next 2 games.

Who would have thunk it. Half time and no touchdowns. Edelman could have really helped. Our defense has been awesome. I can not believe how good Tom Lindner is as the radio man. Why do we have Needless at all.

I would say that this game is winnable. Can we score a touchdown and win 7-6.

6-0 at the half...whoo hoo!

Kent, on a two-game losing streak that includes an embarassing 41-14 loss to Buffalo, starts its back-up quarterback on the road at No. 20 Virginia Tech and it's only 6-0?!

Unfortunately, the second half is where depth comes into play.

Let's hope we can continue to compete and do some things on offense.

GFlash68 asks why we have Bill Needless. All I can say is that it's a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

Pathetic offense, calls and execution, almost as if we're just throwing in the towel and hoping to make something happen on defense. 3rd and 8 and they run a simple handoff off-tackle. Machen only goes downfield a few times and bloops the ball every time, almost got Pruden killed by hanging him out. Dumb penalties on defense killed us on the last drive and lead to 13-0; now a poor showing on our special teams again covering a punt. Our best play together has been the quick kick, now I now why I bitched and complained so much last season about Machen running our O, and I use that term "running" quite loosely.

Finally, a bomb to Pruden for 50 yards. Followed up by a nice run by Jarvis, then Rogers at QB again and snuffed out. Too predictable!!! 3rd and 5 at the 15 and Machen hangs out Jarvis on a bloop toss left for a 1st down right at the marker. When he pitched was his fastball clocked at 75? He has no zip on his balls at all. 2nd and goal at the 7 and incomplete in the endzone. 3rd and G and Kosar, I mean Machen gets sacked again. 4th and G at the 20, will we kick it? Of course!!!!!!!! And another G-D SHANK on another chipshot, with the ball in the middle of the field. Pathetic! All that and 0 points to show! I guess it was too close to the endzone to just concede possession and quick kick it that time. Oh well.

13-0 right now and we're even in the stat sheet except turnovers and penalties led to the 13 points. These kids deserve better than 13-0.....soon to be 20-0. Getting outplayed would be one thing, but to be playing with these guys and leaving points out there has to be quite the downer for the kids playing their hearts out!

Penalty call brings back a TD pass, but a FG makes it 16-0 now.

Why is he still playing? Why, why why? Why not have Rodgers run the option? Could it be any worse?

Rogers running the option has done nothing today either. Why when they're down 23-0 do they just hand off several plays in a row and are content with a chance at a yard or 2 and then punt? Go downfield!!!!!

4th down, muffed return and no yardage but a flag down. Why does Kent State want to re-kick? Why don't they decline the penalty and let Va Tech have the ball there? Of course as I type this the Punter take a fake and runs about 20 yards. LOL!

Today we've had a couple quick kicks, a bomb to Pruden and a Punter-keeper and nothing else. 03-melodramatic

How the hell do you get a delay of game on 1st down? Can we PLEASE have Pastore or anybody else? PLEASE?

1st and 15 with 7 minutes left and down 23-0 so we just runs hands offs again. :banned:

There we go, bloop that ball downfield into a guy covered by 4 guysand get a pass interference!

Next play he gets drug down and bloops the ball out almost getting intercepted. :banned:

And then a hand off right for a decent gain, way to work that clock fellas, we're only down by 23. Followed by what else but a hand off right snuffed at the LOS. Don't go to the end zone fellas, they may be sitting on that one. 01-wingedeagle

And the mobile rifle floats one downfield and it's picked by a defender falling out of bounds. 03-weeping Up to the booth to verify it as a catch. We haven't gotten the benefit of the doubt on any calls today.

And Va Tech has the 2nd string in, hopefully we counter with our backup QB and look to get on the scoreboard.

Damn, Muir almost had a sack/safety as I typed that; I figured the D would get on the board befoer anybody else.

The defense should walk away feeling very proud of their effort today. they kept the score far closer than anybody expected. They held a very good RB in Branden Ore to his worst game of the season, 62 yards on 25 carries (2.5 yards per carry). The team is down 23-0, the Hokies are sitting back and willing to give up the short passes yet we continue to hand it off and get 2 yards and run the clock out on ourselves.

Down 23-0, 1:55 to go, 1st and 10 on our own 46 and we take our GD time in the huddle and only run 2 freakin' runs before the clock runs out? You have got to be freakin' kidding me? I know Machen was horrible in this offnse, but coach but you were absolutely terrible today. Very poor play calling, you should realize your players' limitations and adjust accordingly. How we couldn't get any passes off at all into a prevent defense just amazes me. You counter their prevent defense with a prevent offense happy to just gain 2 yards and a cloud of dust as the clock runs. Absolutely horrible to walk away with a huge 0 on the scoreboard. They're up 23-0...you can probably pump in 2 passing TDs against a prevent defense before Va Tech starts to sweat.

I watched the whole game up until now when I left the bar. I have not read the first thread, but if it is more sarcasm I will do without. I don't know what you expected KSU to do today offensively. I doubt with Edelman it would have been any better. Virginia Tech still has a really good defense, one of the best against the pass.

I think Machen throws too many "touch" passes. But overall, sacks were minimal and the decisions for the most part were good. That is how I see it. Maybe, I have just spent too much time making excuses for the Browns when they show a similar O.

Sarcasm? Where the hell is the sarcasm? Disappointment is more like it. Don't go back and read through, it's only me bitching and whining about the obvious.

The D stuffed Va Tech yet the offense stayed home today. Down to Va Tech and they could have aired it out, instead in the fourth quarter we got a run by the punter for 28, a run by jarvis for 13 and 9 more runs for a combined 11 yards, 2 INT's (1 was basically a fumble off a sack) and an incomplete pass. So were down yet we throw twice and run 11 times? Sacks were minimal? Maybe because I predicted 12, and I also think "the decisions" were very poor. 6-16 and 98 yards? Outside of that floater to Pruden for 49 yards he was 5-15 and 49 yards. He hung out Pruden to be laid out on a pass as he did to Jarvis as well because he has no velocity on his balls. he was lucky to not have been picked off about 4 times today, his fumbles are a whole 'nother story. His rushing was 6 carries for -18 yards. If you think "the decisions" were good today I'd hate to see when they're poor.

I think if you guys had Edelman healthy, you'd have had a shot at VT.

Thank you, I concur! I know at the very least we would not have been shutout. I believe the kids walked away very proud of their efforts, but i think they'd have gotten alot more out of it had they at least gone on the scoreboard.
