Recker expected to try out for NBA teams
When Luke Recker left IU for Arizona before eventually winding up at Iowa , he said one of his main reasons was he wasn't being developed as a pro prospect. But he never heard his name called on draft night.
The 1997 Indiana Mr. Basketball from DeKalb High School still hopes to play in the National Basketball Association, though. Clair Recker said his son has been invited to play in the NBA summer leagues for Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, Indiana and the Lakers. He said his son is leaning toward Miami.
Luke Recker told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that it's better to be undrafted than be a second-round pick because he can decide where he wants to go.
''I've already had 12-15 teams call me to say they're interested,'' Recker said from his new apartment in Los Angeles. ''When I didn't go in the first round, I was hoping I wasn't drafted late in the second. There's just more options this way.''
Recker also said he draws inspiration from Brad Miller. The former Purdue standout went undrafted but now is the Indiana Pacers' starting center.
