CMU - Kentucky
What's up with the Chimps? They are making UK look like USC. Three early turnovers - gifts for the Wildcats.

28-7 Kentucky 5:16 left first half.

Actually, four early turnovers, one at our own five. We're killing ourselves by fumbling the ball. 03-hissyfit

Whew! TD pass from Lefevour (who entered the game in the 2nd quarter)to Gardner.

28 - 14 and Chimps are driving. 1:27 left in the half. Can they close the gap before half?

Now 4th and 2 at the 18. 1st down at the 7 yard line on an Anerson reception.

LeFevour goes nowhere.

Time out CMU with 33 seconds till half. Can they score???

CMU Field goal. Halftime score: Kentucky 28, CMU 17

The MAC really could use an OOC win today. If Chimps can hold on to the ball better, they might be able to pull this one out. Finally had some decent drives near the end of the half.

Yes! FG unit got on the field and converted in 14 seconds. 04-rock It's now a respectable 11 point deficit despite our early case of butterfingers.

Kentucky 28, CMU 17

My personal plea as a MAC fan to Coach Brian Kelly:

Dear Coach,

Your offense managed to put up 17 points in the 2nd quarter to get your team back in the game. All of these points were scored once LeFevour was put into the game. I would like to ask that you promise me that you will not try to "outsmart" Kentucky by rotating QB's in the 2nd half. No Brunner, no Brooks, no flea flicker. For the love of God, give your team a chance to win the game. They've got the momentum right now. Don't take it away from them with Division II coaching antics.

Thanks,

Bronco79

Brunner started because he played well last week and Lefevour is recovering from a back injury (MRI negative so not serious, I think). He's still smarting a little, so it's possible Brunner will come back in. Believe me, Kelly would love to settle on a #1 passer.

Don't get me wrong. I realize that if LeFevour reaggravates the injury he made need to come out. That would be understandable. Anything else is not.

The QB shuffling last week was also about injury. Lefevour (back) tried to go and couldn't. Brunner came in, looked and played rusty, and was replaced by Brooks. Brooks moved the ball but we missed a FG attempt. Brooks started the 3rd quarter but sustained a high ankle sprain and was replaced by Brunner, who shook off the rust and played a great second half.

Anyway, point is, Kelly isn't just playing QB shuffle. I guess those couple miscalls against BC have everyone second-guessing Kelly now. 03-melodramatic

Sounds like poor tackling on what should have been a screen play for little gain. 01-lauramac2 Dammit, now the defense is getting butterfingers. 03-hissyfit

CMU within 35-27 now. Damien Linson caught three passes on the drive, including the TD. 02-13-banana

CMU runs a QB draw for a first down. End 3rd quarter. If we hadn't been so freakin' generous with the ball in the first quarter...oh well, glad we're still in it.

That's all she wrote. Four turnovers in the first half killed us, and a late hit penalty and two dropped passes hurt us in the closing minutes. Some of it was young player stuff (RB, QB) and some was experienced players losing focus for a couple seconds. I don't expect us to be as generous with the pigskin at Toledo. :banned:

How many Chippewas does it take to make a tackle?

Apparently six.
