KB's Thoughts Pt2
Well, it seems as though some of the other people are seeing what I saw last week. You can coach execution... but, you can't coach instinct... There are two reasons why you have a sack... OL or the QB... I mean, you need to be mobile... if you see a bunch of guys coming after you, its time to move and try to get away... don't just accept the snap... dunno, I lived with two engineers in college... he reminds me of them... he probably thinks and calculates every move rather than plays by the gut and let your instincts be your guide...
D was a little disappointing...

Can't blame this on Cochran entirely. WMU did a much better job of preparing and blitzed at the right times. why in the hell we did run fakes at the 5 yard line and try to throw is beyond me.. They read that perfectly and sent one guy after Cochran and he had no time to even **** his arm and dump it off. could he have read the blitz? Not likely. the play is designed to fool any rusher to go after the ball carrier - and they could not afford to blitz just the quarterback and get eaten up with the run.
D - did not play that badly. They gave up one big play. Otherwise, the passing yardage was insignificant and the rusing yardage was about 100 yards without the one big run. we lost the game on turnovers and stupid play calling when we had a chance to take the lead. then again with a really bad pass from Cochran that was picked off and taken back 92 yards. No aspect of the game was stellar - it was just not a good performance and we seemed flat as hell....

You seem to suggest that we try another QB. What is the status of the 2 and 3? Are they ready? Amstutz hates losing worse than we do. Do you foresee a change of strategy?

Cochran has to have a better showing against KU or else it might be time for a change. I do think the mobility of all the recent QBs (Boldin, Jones, Gradkowski) have made a huge difference in the protection. Also Cochran did not have that "short term" memory because he seemed to carry his mistakes with him the rest of the game.
The one thing that concerned me going into the season was that Cochran did not take ownership from the onset. He could have put any competition to rest since he had more experience than the rest of the competition. But it never seemed his play rose to a level where the QB competition was an afterthought in the spring. He was listed as #1, but not endorsed by the staff.
I would hope a home game against McNeese State would be a nice tune up if it is time for a switch.

Wow-hope I never have a bad day at work. You guys would havre me out the door. If Cochran is too "uninstinctive" then he also very bright and able to analyze, and hopefully correct, his errors. I think he'll be fine. Obviously the coaches, who seem to be a capable bunch, feel he's the guy. I think we beat Kansas and go on to a 11-3 record and the NCAA championship in an upset over Tennessee.

Did you notice that we are 5 point favorites or was that a misprint? Sorry if you are superstitious.

I talked to Clint today and he basically said he is to blame. He said he made bad decisions and has gone over the film several times. He said he was up late last night looking at what he should have done.
This kid has character and leadership skills. He also knows what it takes to succeed when you don't at first.
I agree with PhotoDan......Clint is the man. The kid can play, don't give up on him.

Sounds like Clint has added another class and lab to his course load! ;-)

Let me say first of all KBwelcome back. KB let me personally reiterate Clint is our man. Mobility can be improved upon, decision making can be improved on, but this Rocket Armed QB is our best hope. I watched pesonally what happened Sat in Kzoo, look for the opposite to happen at home Friday. Our coaches will improve upon their poor game plan this week, and like hungry dogs they will entice their athletes to a GREAT preformance. You are a fan, show it.

Early lines have the Rockets a 4.5 to 5 point favorite. (Some folks clearly see the Midnight Blue and Gold rebounding at the Glass Bowl.)
Also, the ISU and Iowa game is OFF.
Very interesting.
